I’d rather have a crude, worse-than-MS-paint photoshop meme than some AI generated nonsense.
At the very least, the crude 'shop one had some effort put into it. And as someone who crudely shops things for the lulz, there’s a point about 2/3 through where it starts to take shape and you can be like “you know, this is stupid” and abandon it. With AI generated ones, it’s just type, copy, paste, spam with no reflection point (I mean, you could choose not to post what was output, but most people just click “send”).
That’s not even touching on how AI generated images just look wrong. To me, they’re just unsettling and deeply in uncanny valley.
I, for one, am looking forward to the AI ouroboros training itself on its own outputs
Yeah when Lemmy does the bean circlejerk its funny until someone uploads their 25 AI generated bean + noun creations.

When I shitpost I want people to know it came from my soul
I get the sentiment, but it’s hard to classify them as “all bad” for me. It’s like 25% percent good. Like those inpainting rick roll images
They both have their places… and one of those places is the trash bin:-).
Didn’t realize until right now how much the last image of Poo looks like Harvey Weinstein
[Reposted Xwitter’s Ai Generated Memes]
My unpopular opinion is that most memes on a template belong in the lower right rectangle. I have no idea how people laugh at the same joke they’ve seen on repeat. They’re so predictable…even before someone makes them. Like if a show/movie/game introduces a cute lil guy, someone is “making” the Brooklyn Nine Nine meme, a fan favorite is usurped by a cooler fan favorite and you’ll see the Toy Story meme, etc.
It feels so…unnatural? People rush to be the first to make the joke to get the upvotes. I saw a comment on here once that was along the lines of "the way memes are shared [through social media to a large audience of strangers] nowadays is antithetical to the definition of a meme.
I’m happy to defend my point if you disagree and I’m not opposed to changing my mind on it
I agree to a certain extent. If anything there should be four types. I’d still put AI at the bottom and put low effort memes in third.
