Apple is working on a small, wearable AI pin equipped with multiple cameras, a speaker, and microphones, reports The Information. If it actually launches, the AI pin will likely run the new Siri chatbot that Apple plans to unveil in iOS 27.

Let’s start with the nicknames for the kinds of losers who’d use these so we can have them at the ready. Think “glasshole” (the one that stuck to Google’s surveillance product) but for this instead. I propose we use something like “pinhead”, only one that doesn’t suck like that, to just pre-emptively label its users before it even gets to market.

The Information says it is not clear if Apple plans to sell the pin on its own or bundle it with future smart glasses or other devices, but the physical button and built-in cameras, speakers, and microphones suggest that it can operate independently.

How about not releasing this at all? Nobody wants this.

Jesus christ. The airtag made it so easy to stalk people, that they had to deploy warnings when your phone suspects a tracker is following you. Based on that, Apple decided the best course of action was to add microphones and cameras do the airtag?

This would be a completely stupid product idea. I could see why Humane tried such an obviously stupid product, they were a startup that was trying something just in case, and ended up proving how stupid the concept is.

It doesn’t matter how bullish one might be about AI, this is a terrible product to facilitate that interaction.

Fine. A camera… That can’t tell where the user is looking. Having a device on speaker is generally a rude thing to do.

No one wants to skip having a screen, hell even for AI fanatics video and image generation is a huge use case that this product wouldn’t do anything for.

I could imagine a “body cam” pin as a phone accessory. But not as a standalone device. More useful would be something head mounted, and glasses could even do gaze tracking. But I could see people not wanting to wear glasses and selling for a body cam experience for some use cases. But interesting with an AI seems impractical since you would have no agreement on what you are looking at to answer a question.

Highly doubt this. It’s been tried before and it failed. I highly doubt Apple is looking at those failures and thinking, “If only they used Siri, they would have been effective.” Then again, they have the money to burn to try. I just don’t think they will.

This is pure desperation. There’s literally no description of the use case this product will solve for people. I wouldn’t need this if it were free

You’re going to get kicked out of the stalker-Stasi club with that kind of talk. Or just out in a black bag and murdered.

Anyway, let’s talk about sports and reality tv!
