It sounds more like agreed in principle, and would only come into effect if/when Russia agrees.

Yeah. It’s similar to the many ceasefire deals between Hamas and Israel that were agreed between the US and Israel. It’s a single step towards a ceasefire deal but there’s likely a long way to go.

No clue why this was removed by a mod. It’s %100 correct. Russia needs to be handled like the allies handled Nazi Germany, destroy it completely and rebuild it

Hilarious to see my comment removed.

Russians need a taste of their own medicine. You have to treat them like they treat others. If they bring up “human rights”, you must let them know that you can see through their ruse and you know they don’t care about human rights and they are lying.

This is the only way to deal with russians.

Sure, not every russian is a genocidal imperialist, but when any and all research (quantitative, qualitative, preference falsification adjusted etc.) shows that something between 65% to 85% of russians are genocidal imperialists, you have to approach them in a sober manner. The world doesn’t always work as one wants it to work. White-washing russian genocidal imperialism benefits no one, including the russians themselves.

I don’t see how that comment is offensive unless you purposely conflate Russia to mean “Russian citizens” rather than the very clearly intended “Russian Government”.

I also want to say, it had something to do with Marco Rubio going on his own and leaving that chubby clown JD Vance at home. Any other day, I’d say Rubio sucks, but I do suspect he’d rather not see America pull a 180 on its commitments to its allies.

Ultimately, the ceasefire deal may or may not happen. I doubt Russia will really agree to it, but it does put some pressure on them. But, it’s providing cover for the bigger story here — the US is continuing aid to Ukraine.

Well it has to. The meeting was basically watching a long-term ally say they’d turn their back on any of its friends any chance they can get. If all the US can bring to the friend group is gym bro muscles but turns out is actually a petty coward, still asking for minerals, they won’t get invited to the cool stuff anymore.

Someone in DC still understands the content of Alliances 101 and has explained it.

Does GB need a cookie? Why do they toot their own horn?

Edit: Does it not feel out of character to you? There is no ceasefire agreement, just an agreement to participate in negotiations. I would assume that to a British prime minister, that’s not worth mentioning and when the BBC writes it like this, that it is a subtle putdown.

In this, trump’s acting in the same way he did in his first term. He believes and promotes the opinions of the last person who spoke to him. Thus time Starmer was that person, and he’s been trying to get trump to maintain support for Ukraine for a while. This new stance will last until someone else comes along and persuades him otherwise. I would expect to see various E.U. leaders falling over themselves to say how great trump is for restarting support to avoid this happening.
