It was originally written for a movie called Dangerous Minds. I’m not an expert on Hip Hop, but I’d say it has definitely made it’s place among the best in the genre.
Also, it’s heavily by Stevie Wonder’s Pastime Paradise.
I’m surprised no one said Dolly Parton’s 9-to-5.
I watched that for the first time earlier this month. I was NOT expecting what it actually was.
I thought it was just at most like a concept album film, but way more likely to just have her as the soundtrack to a bad movie with a silly and relatable “fuck up your boss” theme.
Now I know she was respected for her vocalized beliefs and inclusion, but I really didn’t think it would go that hard. I was blown away.
Plus I was pretty high when I watched it, and some of those scenes were trippy af. It was a good day.
Now to watch The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas
Never even heard of that one til now.
Despite the title, it’s a comedy.
I also really liked Straight Talk. We watched all her movies after she passed and even though it had poor reviews I actually liked it a lot

Imho, the pacing of that movie was pretty rough. I know my attention span is fucked these days, but when I watch other movies from the late 70’s / early 80’s, 9 to 5 drags hard by comparison.
It did well at the box office, but I get why modern audiences don’t go back to it often.The direction feels really dated.
Was it only 15 minutes? High me remembers it as bring in one big dose, then just lil sporadic bursts the rest of the time.
I have a weekly “get high and watch a movie (a mix of “whatever strikes our fancy at the moment”, or “missed out on when it came out because we were raised super Christian”, with a healthy dose of “pride-related movies”) and then watch a few episodes of whatever tv show we’re working on” day, so I can confidently say that being stupid high is the best way to watch stuff. Even if we do miss a lot of context and plot from talking about tangentially-related stuff the whole time.
Good times.
This coming month will probably be horror movies (obvz), and I’ve already picked a movie that actually did scare the absolute shit out of me as a kid, and the memory still has some trauma attached to it for me, but I’m hate-watching it to maybe help heal my poor childhood memory.
And what is it? It would be “Thief in the Night”, made in the 70s. Basically a Christian rapture themed movie. I have almost no specific memory of any of the scenes (I saw it when I was a single digit age), but I feel like there was someone who thought they were “saved” and didn’t make it or something. That idea and the song on the end credits I forget the exact title now but I assume it’s “I wish we’d all been ready” as that line is prominent in the chorus. The idea that someone could think they were saved but not really be (and the fact that all the adults around me didn’t seem to have any concern about it) made me feel very, VERY insecure about it, and was probably the first of many, many cracks that finally led to me figuring it out way later.
I spent the next 20ish years “praying the prayer” several times every time I thought about that song, just to make sure. It is definitely the source of a lot of anxiety for me, and probably the scariest scary movie I’ve ever seen.
Coming back to it now, over 3 decades later, taking a victory lap on it, while using extremely non Christian friendly language and being high af, will be a real healing moment for me I think.
But I’ll keep a spot open later this year to watch the whorehouse movie (😂).

Absence of Paradox by Lovett - in fact that whole album - is just simply magnificent on par with Vangelis.
The movie it’s from, is also beautiful, but utterly confusing. I’m not sure it’s very well known at all.
Id say Lose Yourself by Eminem. Maybe because I was too young to watch the movie when it came out, but that song was everywhere, and is still popular today
