Honestly I would say parking on the sidewalk is actually more common in Europe than in the US. But obviously depends on the local area as much as anything.
I think it’s also because the US is obsessed with parking and wide roads so there’s rarely an incentive to park on the sidewalk. Plenty of space elsewhere designated to that purpose.
