I wouldn’t be so reductionist less one become blind to their flaws. American sanctions have crippled them, and are their primary problem, but even without the sanctions they’d have problems. Though they’d also likely have a reasonable quality of life in that scenario

I have a ton of respect for Cuba. They’re remarkably plucky, given that the US has spent decades trying to strangle them to death.

Yeah, they’ve also seemed to follow Fidel’s model of willingness to reflect and grow. Early Cuba was brutal, before and after their revolution. Fidel did and ordered horrible things, but he changed and showed remorse as he aged. That trait made him stick out to me among world leaders as someone who genuinely wanted what was best for his people and country. He also seemed to try to not rob the country blind as so many in positions like his do.

I wish nothing but the best for my neighbors in Cuba. I know they’re going through more rough times, but they’re tough as all get out and I suspect that they’re far more likely to eventually move to a stateless, moneyless, and free society than any other nominally communist nation at the moment. And to my trans siblings in Cuba, congrats

Wow. I know I say this a lot but I really mean it this time.

That’s fucking crazy. (In a good way)

    Seriously, good for them.

If the US lifted sanctions, the economy would get a lot closer to “fixed”. Pretty ridiculous to act like the economic problems are not a result of the reactionary policies of the capitalist vampires.

          Both can be true.

If everything is Cuba’s fault, then US can lift sanctions and they’ll continue to be failing. But they won’t do that because Cuba, while awful for speech rights, would be pretty good in most other aspects without the sanctions, and a successful socialist country isn’t allowed to exist.

You jumped from economy to press freedom.

Cuba’s economy is entirely because of American sanctions.

Yeah it turns out when your country is under siege war the government has to restrict some speech to keep the peace. That’s war.

Maybe look into why their economy sucks then your post wouldn’t sound as stupid as it does because you wouldn’t post what you posted if you had.

Over sixty years of economic sanctions by the US on Cuba are why their economy sucks. Despite this, they haven’t gone bankrupt and still try and help other nations in times of crisis.

Ask yourself why Cuba has a better health outcome than the richest country in the world.

Maybe you don’t see reality because of your “American eyes” and education.

Can’t you just stick to helping Ukraine instead of talking about things you know jackshit about?
