Fediverse@lemmy.world•Loops is a new short form platform created by Pixelfed creator Daniel Supernault.English
201·18 days agoIt needs an app (edit: that is available through Play store or the corresponding apple shop)
And it needs to render uploaded videos to the maximum allowed file size. Regular people don’t know how to make their videos smaller. I only managed to do it by uploading to you tube the then downloading it from there. Then it was small enough to to be uploaded to loops
Also, easier sign up and more content

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you miss drinking from the water fountain?
2·1 month agoI need specifications…
Are water fountains the ones that point water upwards? Or generally any tap water?

Privacy@programming.dev•Alright, how do you all handle your photos? Self-hosted Immich, Hetzner Nextcloud, Ente or Zeitkapsl?
6·1 month agoI went through this dilemma too and actually talked with ente about it. It turns out that they did initially try to set it up in Europe as they are a global team, but the EU requirement for physical presence in the country was limiting for them.
They said that there were workarounds for this but decided on setting it up in the US because it was very straightforward with no workarounds or limitations
I like the way they are going with ente though and feel like it’s a fair price. The software works well too

Fediverse@lemmy.zip•Has anyone seen/heard any mention of Loops on the corporate media this week?English
7·1 month agoI have only loosely heard about loops before but never looked into it until I saw this post
First I search for it on Google Play. Then on f droid. No luck
Then on Qwant (because I don’t use Google).
Only when I searched for loops fediverse did I find it
When it yet isn’t available, in the places people will look for it, I doubt that the media will start mentioning it. And this is probably a good thing.
Most users are lazy and wouldn’t consider it an option if they had to download an APK, disable security for them and then signup for a manual approval
It’s better that it gets served when it’s ready, instead of having a reputation of it being complicated to install and sing up to

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why can people see who upvotes and who downvoted post on Lemmy?
1·1 month agoI think you missed the point of this - I don’t mind down votes.
I am just surprised that (some) users will actively use third party software to identify who made them, and then confront them publicly

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why can people see who upvotes and who downvoted post on Lemmy?
7·1 month agoI agree - I was just surprised to be confronted publicly by a user, for down voting a post. Not that I didn’t want to be exposed, but that people actually could look it up

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why can people see who upvotes and who downvoted post on Lemmy?
3·1 month agoBut they are not public. You need third party websites or special privileges to see them.
For true transparency there should be a list with voting interaction on each post and comment

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why can people see who upvotes and who downvoted post on Lemmy?
51·1 month agoI agree that it is good with transparency, but then this should also be freely available on the Lemmy platform, and even the clients, in the same way as modlogs list what is going on.
I knew that admins could somehow go into the database and check who has done what, but I assumed that this was only the admin, and maybe even that the info was encrypted. It’s alright with me that it’s not, but then why not display it on each post and comment, with a list of interactions to it.
In this case, it’s this post:
https://quokk.au/comment/3048088Although, the comment where people were being called out, may have been removed (not sure if it’s because I have blocked the user, or they have blocked me)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why can people see who upvotes and who downvoted post on Lemmy?
51·1 month agoI feel like the devs should then have a visible overview of who has up- or down voted each post and comment then. Similiar to the mod log.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why can people see who upvotes and who downvoted post on Lemmy?
3·1 month agoIt’s weird that it only take into account what your reactions are, and not the content that you share. If you down vote negativity, but share content that is upvoted, you still get a negative ratio

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Playback speed past X2 is now a YouTube paid featureEnglish
4·1 month agoPersonally i only use youtube to doomscroll “shorts” because I don’t have facebook, instagram or tik tok for that. It’s really no pleasure as such, but a good way to just turn wind down.
My main issue is that most of the information and knowledge that i used to get from reading blog posts, or forum threads, has become videos, with the majority of the content being irellevant

Keep me informed!👌👍🤞
