      I absolutely hate how west coast centric media has portrayed public transportation, you look at any major TV show on the east coast and public transportation usually is just a standard element

              To be fair NYC should have never gotten rid of its trams, at the same time tho literally all froms of transportation work significantly better in NYC because we have density.

                i’d argue NYC is actually so dense that public transport almost works worse, because no matter what you do things will be jam-packed with people (well, maybe not in outer queens…). Tokyo is the extreme example, where they have entire countries worth of subways and yet still sometimes need men with white gloves to help get the doors closed!

                Whereas in a more “normal” city you can get to a point where the capacity is actually sufficient, and things get chill.

                  At the same time the extremely high demand allows the subway to justify massive and expensive extensions, the same is true in Japan. Also thats more dependant on the line and time of day.
