  • Capitalist propaganda has had decades to hone and refine their techniques for manipulation and deception, the only way to win is to not play their rigged game, but if you’re forced to because they’ve captured all of the resources under a government backed judiciary that’s purpose is to centralize wealth and power under a minority ownership class i think you’d be justified to take more drastic measures to subvert or remove their propaganda.

  • Like most genres there’s going to be some films that connect with some people more than others. The music, setting, characters, story, etc can all weigh in on how effective the scares or laughs or whatever emotional reaction you’re going for are with different audiences. If heredity was too slow of a suspense builder you might want to avoid other similar slow building suspense for awhile and look for more faster paced action horror, comedy horror, etc other sub-genres of horror.

  • Do what you think is right, but actually take some time to determine if it’s actually right or just feels right

Don’t wait for someone else to challenge your beliefs do it yourself first, use the Socratic method if you need a starting point

Rewarding or ignoring bad behavior is the same as encouraging bad behavior

Leave places/systems in the same or better state than you encounter them

    Don’t play rigged games

Keep a bowl by the door for keys and loose change

  • I think the usual recs are things like start small and consistent and take care of your physical health (not over/under sleeping, good diet and exercise, keeping yourself and home clean, etc), hobbies, cultivate relationships, etc but if you’re not able to take the steps to make those things happen you may need a professional’s help who can offer things like talk therapy, behavior therapy, medicine, etc. i.e. If I have a sprained ankle I can keep weight off it and wrap it to let it heal, but if it’s a break I’d need a doctor to maybe set the break and cast it to get it to heal properly, similar for mental health some stuff you can do yourself but some stuff takes someone else trained to heal or help identify the difference between the two.

  • Saved an old desktop and laptop from the trash by installing mint and Firefox with ublock. The desktop lasted them for years without any problems, and I think the only problem I supported on the laptop over years was the boot mount filled itself up during updates and needed to be cleaned up.

  • Talking head montages, especially at the beginning of a movie or TV show. I think directors try to ground some fiction in reality by having a bunch of news reporters comment on some event but as someone who tries to avoid that garbage it just feels like the movie is made for someone else and it’s been used so many times it’s irritating.

Also product placement seeing a soda can or car perfectly framed to see the brand name or logo cheapens any sense of artistic integrity and feels like watching an advertisement.

And if I can indulge in a meta trope of streaming service monetization since it’s become so common these days having a subscription + ad tier. Sub no ads or ads no sub, mixing them is the same greed as cable TV and shouldn’t be supported by subscribing (Disney, HBO Max, prime, Netflix, etc).
