  • I like it so that the USB C will last longer. At least in theory.

It’s more than theory in my experience. I had a OnePlus 5 and lint completely ruined the USB-C port. I could spend 10 minutes trying to dig stuff out and get the cable right for it to establish a charge before I finally gave up and upgraded. It’s why I’m not AS annoyed that the wireless charging add-on takes up the port. As long as it’s also keeping debris out of the port (and the rest of the phone continues to run well) I’ll live with it.

  • The phone or the OS? Hardware wise, my only gripe is the lack of wireless charging. I use an aftermarket plug to add it, but it doesn’t put the charge pad quite in the right place, so I sometimes have to put it upside down. It also means the USB-C port is always occupied. That isn’t a huge deal for me as I like to use plugs to keep dust out anyway

Software wise, I’m still running regular Android. I don’t like that there’s no Gallery app. You have to use Google Photos. That coupled with the fact that .nomedia files don’t seem to work mean that the app shows ALL photos on your phone, including some you might want to keep private.

Other than that though, I’m pretty happy with it. Just upgraded mine to 15.

It looks like it’s done in a comic book style. Reverse image searches show some Twitter and Tumblr posts indicating it’s Kate Kane looking for Tim Drake (Batwoman and Robin from the Batman franchise), but I’m not sure if this is an actual page from the comic or just fanart.

Jesus, why did I click around in there? I want to pity them for being so pathetic, but they’re being pathetic in the most aggravating way. This game is woke because it’s got a black man and an Asian man in it. That game is woke because it refers to the faceless protagonist with they/them pronouns.

What’s sad is I’m sure there are some people engaging in that forum as a form of satire and Poe’s law is in full effect so we will never know who is who.

  • Yeah, my OP9 was my third OnePlus phone and my last one. I installed a security update that made the cell radio completely non-functional and had to factory reset it. I use my phone for 2FA to get into my work computer, so this was simply unacceptable.

I realized I wasn’t doing enough with my phone to warrant flagship prices and ended up switching to a Pixel 6a I got on the cheap. Other than having to add wireless charging with an accessory, I haven’t looked back.

  • Not technically AT the work place, but a couple employees decided it would be a good idea to sneak off to a side room during the company Christmas party to fool around. They got caught and nothing happened for a couple weeks. Then, for the first and last time in the company history to my knowledge, both employees were asked to provide proof of gym attendance to justify the stipend they were collecting, then fired when they failed to do so.

What’s fun is the couple were married (to each other) and it didn’t happen on company property or during business hours, so this was totally just a “We’re icked out by this” move by HR. Gotta love working in the South.

  • When you close a bank account, make sure you print out all of your statements first. They’ll keep your records, but have no obligation to give you those records when you stop holding an account there.

When I had to dispute a debt with a collector, I tried going to the bank and they wanted $8 per monthly statement. I knew I had made the payment but wasn’t sure when because it was years prior, and could easily have spent more on those statements than the debt was for. Luckily the debt originator found proof of payment before it went any further, but lesson learned.

  • Yeah, I just set it up because I don’t want Meta’s shit on my phone and my friend group insists on using WhatsApp. I still had to install the native WhatsApp client but I was able to remove it as soon as I had confirmed the account creation. It also means I can stop giving out my cell number when I want to meet someone from Facebook Marketplace to buy something.

They advise against removing the apps on your phone, but at the least, you can turn off notifications for everything other than Beeper and use it as a single interface. On the desktop app, it makes a bit more sense. I’ve stopped running the Telegram, Signal, and Google Chat apps. I just wish Google Voice played nice with integrations and could be added to the platform.

Steam recently updated to make it way easier to switch between accounts. It used to be you had to authenticate every time, which was a pain with Steam Guard. Now there’s a Change Account function which won’t invalidate your authentication token though it does seem to sign you out until you switch back.

I use that to ensure I’m not advertising certain games to the world.

I had a copy of Are You Gonna Be My Girl by Jet that would cut out and loop back in the middle of the song. I listened to it so much I could sing along without missing a beat. Then whenever I heard the right version, it always felt weird when the song flowed through normally.
