Yeah don’t listen to Dave Ramsey. I remember hearing him speak on TV as a kid and something just felt off about him, but not quite as bad as Suze Orman.
I don’t think he’s a scammer, and some of the stuff he says is perfectly sensible and useful, but he (a boomer) also gives advice that isn’t how he got rich, to millennials and co, who will never ever get rich following it. Structurally that makes him pretty out of touch, and suggests anyone who listens to him should do so critically.
That’s putting aside that he’s also kind of just telling people to do capitalism harder, and everything that comes with that.
I don’t see this mentioned there, but that Apple has largely ignored enterprise works out as a strength; other companies wrote and open sourced pretty good tools. That can result in tools that better meet your needs, and generally will result in a lower TCO.
The latest the CPU could’ve come out is around the time Barack Obama became a household name, at which point 64GB would’ve been a really big and expensive SSD. They probably wanted space
Younger millennial here: I don’t remember a particular moment, but it was somewhere during the 2nd Bush administration. Between the horrible things that happened in Guantanamo Bay, the completely unjustified war on Iraq, and the harm I saw No Child Left Behind inflicting on my own community, the country’s flaws were very apparent to me.
When an obvious charlatan got elected in 2016, that devastated my hope that things would improve.
I’ve learned a number of tools I’d never used before, and refreshed my skills from when I used to be a sysadmin back in college. I can also do things other people don’t loudly recommend, but fit my style (Proxmox + Puppet for VMs), which is nice. If you have the right skills, it’s arbitrarily flexible.
What electricity costs in my area. $0.32/KWh at the wrong time of day. Pricier hardware could have saved me money in the long run. Bigger drives could also mean fewer, and thus less power consumption.
Google, selfhosting communities like this one, and tutorial-oriented YouTubers like NetworkChuck. Get ideas from people, learn enough to make it happen, then tweak it so you understand it. Repeat, and you’ll eventually know a lot.
If you parked in their lot, the waitstaff will yell profanities at your driver?
It’s not evidence that this was staged, but it does seem rather like evidence that he had a plan in the event someone tried this.
To me, multiplayer video games should be about having fun with friends. Couch co-op, LAN parties, online multiplayer work for different genres and depending where your friends are. I don’t care if they’re older games, newer games, as long as it’s fun and interesting.
Given the scope of destruction they’ve caused, I find it harder to believe, but I hope you’re right and they will follow through.
I assume his nonprofit is finding people with arrest warrants, and telling police where they’re located?
I’d watch those folders, especially the UPLOAD_LOCATION, when it’s uploading. Are they being written? Do they persist, or are they being deleted? See if you can upload a single image through the web client, and observe that behavior too.
Yeah I’d rather see an Internet community keep a mod who has shown they’re capable of introspection then they made a mistake, than try and pretend they can find a new mod who won’t make mistakes.
And export it in PDF format!
it exploded all over my counter, how am I supposed to peel it??
The EU had a documented process for a member state to leave. It was untested and messy, but it existed.
There’s no legal basis for a state to leave the US. Now it’s possible we let it happen despite this, with or without armed conflict, but it’s hard to imagine a hypothetical Texit not being messier than Brexit ever was
Or through parenting, perhaps?
If you personally have two, but have two kids with zero, you’re responsible for lowering the average to one, or lower depending on how we account for your partner’s contribution
He’s taking a break for a while, and won’t do something as regimented as weekly researched videos again. He’s still doing Lateral, his podcast, and a few smaller projects like the newsletter.
I’m hoping after he takes his break, he’s able to find a healthy balance where he can create several videos a year when he really wants to, and finds it creatively fulfilling. It really seems like he loves exploring the topics he tends to cover, so it seems unlikely he won’t return at some point. How long the break will be seems to be the biggest unknown.
“Melting down confederate statues and turning their remains into statues of the cast of hit Adult Swim animated series Aqua Teen Hunger Force” sounds like a great political platform. I’d vote for them.
It looks like they tried to change it in 2017 and the bill got compromised down to some safeguards that don’t amount to much.
I found some articles characterizing ACLU’s position as viewing it as a slippery slope to taking away access to abortion or other reproductive healthcare. I get why that kind of thing is something they’re worried about, but I really don’t see how it applies in this situation.
It’s still causing harm, and I really don’t see who it’s helping. Pair the law with strong protections for reproductive rights for people of all ages, maybe even as a proposition. It’d probably be pretty popular, though I also expected the proposition to ban prison slavery to be popular too.
