Kind of like the butcher who got his hands dirty cutting a steak and then a Michelin star chef cooking it for you.
One got his hands bloody. The other made it delectable for you to eat.
Which is more important to the process?

I’ve never really liked the UI in LibreOffice either. It’s usable, but always felt clunky to me. And it feels so heavy and ponderous to use. That says something from someone who wears the sackcloth and ashes of FreeCAD…
I did use OnlyOffice for a bit and I thought it was better for my needs than LibreOffice. But it was still overkill my current needs. So now I’m down to just AbbyWord and Gnumeric since I only need the odd document and simple spreadsheet.
Edit for missed word
Or more likely, Chrome browser these days…
I have taught an introductory course in 3D CAD in my local high school. The sheer number of kids that have no clue on how to use a simple mouse is astounding. If it ain’t touch screen, they are clueless.
I think Win 8 was a YMMV release. I used it heavily for work, (CAD/CAM) and it ran very well. With no more issues than one expects to get from /windows.
I’ve tried electrics, disposables, and the 200 blade monstrosity cartridges, (or whatever blade count they are up to now). But none of them shave as well as my trusty Slim Adjustable. I’ve also got a GEM single edge and a Schick Injector also - I love that Injector too. I got them because those are the razors I remember my Grandfathers using to shave with.
So I too can highly recommend them also. One razor to last a lifetime.
Yes, you can still find rural small town radio stations that feature local programming. Collage stations often are desperate for content. But it’s not quite like it was 30+ years ago. I live in the middle of a forest with very low population density. So I can listen to such a radio station, provided the weather is right, I’m in my tractor, and at the end of my driveway in just the right spot. :) They used to broadcast MLB games, but that’s gotten far, far too expensive. (Baseball and radio is meant to go together).
From 8AM to noon they have local programing with the local goings on done live. Then from noon to 4PM it’s pretty much canned music with news and weather, from 4PM to 6PM it’s local programming from the Reservation, (Red Lake Ojibwa). They have some very good programming worth a listen. Then from about 7PM to 8PMish during the school year it’s High School sports. And depending on the day, it can vary between the girls teams and the boys teams. After that, it back to canned programming.
I often wonder about how much longer they can make enough money to keep the station going and staffed.
Blades are a quick internet trip away to order. But for the little travel I do, I either skip shaving if it’s a short trip, pack an electric, or bring a cheap Bic disposable to use. I have packed a cheap safety razor and brush and soap in my Doff bag for special occasions, but that’s way too much effort as a rule.
Razors. Back in the day you could buy a razor and expect to shave with it every day for the rest of your life. I still have my first razor, a Gillette Slim Adjustable and it still shaves as well as it did the first day I brought it home. The heft and balance are something those new plastic razors and multi bladed monsters can never match.
Thankfully, internet shopping allows me to buy blades from around the world and now I can enjoy my old razor again.
I remember those radios. And I remember the small town radio stations that had shows filled with local happenings and people with local voices providing the information. Not canned shows from a central location.
So back to the rule of kings and Strongman Despots.
Because that’s what a social collapse will get you every time. There will be no “worker’s paradise”.
China WILL defend NK just as they did in the 1950’s. China has no desire to see US influence anywhere near what they consider “their territories” and sphere of influence.
At which point the US WILL get involved and we are off the race to Armageddon. []https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pklr0UD9eSo
Medals can be recycled to new soldiers. Rice is one meal and done…
When I spent a few years teaching in the local school, one thing I taught was a class on Design and 3D printing. The VERY first thing I always had to teach was “how to use a mouse” before I could even begin to start teaching CAD modeling.
I swear, smart phones and touch screens are a curse and pox on humanity.
Gotta wait for the blue light special though.
Japan still has a higher density of population and far less landmass to cover. My nearest neighbor is over a mile away. Are you going to build a bus route or light rail just for me? Or through county, state, and federal forest lands? Logistics is a bitch.
Yep. I live the same life in a very rural and somewhat remote area also. Population density is very low making modern conveniences non-existent and not ever likely to exist in such places.
Other things to consider: Kids often ride a school bus for an hour or more to and from school. Nearest hospital is 40 miles away. And it’s a Level 3. This means it’s pretty much a bandaid station. I used to work as a medic up here. The number of times I had to literally turn the lights on in the ER and wait for the doctor to get out of bed and drive to the hospital would shock you. Nearest ambulance is 20 miles away and you better hope they aren’t already busy when you dial 911. Because if they are, it could be several hours before they can get to you. The US Postal Service will NOT deliver mail to my home. I need to pay $160 a year for a post office box, (no free delivery for me!), and drive the 12 mile round trip to town, (Pop: 150), just to get my mail.
So how does rail solve the Last Mile problem? It does no good to say “take the train” if the nearest train station is 60 miles away. And is it the best use of a train to run tracks to a town/village with a population 150 people or less?
I prefer Trabant.
Like the Linux kernel, the cow is merely a means to an end in this example.
