Sure, we were just finishing FDR’s presidency, where pro worker policies and the war effort helped simulate an economy back to strength. Tax on the wealthy rose to 94% by 1944, allowing a couple solid decades of lower/middle class growth.

Then, in the 70’s until now, all of that has steadily come undone as the majority of Americans now struggle to get by. The ultra wealthy scoot on by, paying 15% (if that) and because most of the country struggles to earn a decent wage, taxes aren’t paying for upkeep of our infrastructures and our schools are funded less and less.

I don’t count this as an enlightened time. I view us living in modern dark ages of feudal lords (ultra rich) and the rest of us serfs.

I guess it depends on the lense. Accepting various sexually? Sure. Our politics and the general state of things? I wouldn’t describe us that way.

I see some of that rhetoric and I think it’s mostly the younger folks. The virility of youth combined with the challenges they are faced with leave everyone more on edge. There are other factors of course, lack of wisdom, Internet anonymity, etc

I don’t think violence is a useful tool when fighting against hate groups. It’s what they want. Then they have a claim that they are oppressed. You let them make the first move.

That being said, I’m ready to fight back against them at a moment’s notice and will use all means. I see the luxuries most of us enjoy (food, electricity, clean water) and hope it never comes to that for all our sake. Our just-in-time economy depends on stability and COVID showed us how easily it can all get fucked up. Out of control violence is one of those ways.

I’m glad she’s standing up against hate. She has more to lose than most of us but still stood up.

That being said, she was 66 in that picture and that freaks me out a little. I remember watching reruns of her on TV back in the 80’s. At the rate I’m going, I’ll be looking like the sorting hat from Harry Potter by that age.

Oh man, I was thinking this was some historical piece on a cult I hadn’t heard of, but this is happening right now! It’s very sad that people can be so far gone and commit horrendous deeds.
