Used Mastodon for two days. Not a great platform imo. Been using Bluesky for a few months and having a decent time, but sometimes it’s hard getting fed the content I want (not sure if it exists in general there).

Also have been a decently heavy Twitter user since 2013 ish

The unfortunate truth is protesting will do nothing. Just last year the massive college campus protests were brushed off as “kids who haven’t grown up yet” by Democrats.

Yeah 3.5 was pretty ass w bugs but could write basic code. 4o helped me sometimes with bugs and was definitely better, but would get caught in loops sometimes. This new o1 preview model seems pretty cracked all around though lol

This is interesting, haven’t heard of it. I think the problem with the disc format is you aren’t getting 28 TB of content on there unless you span multiple discs which is a pain in the ass

Personally I can’t wait for these glass hard drives being researched to come at the consumer or even corporate level. Yes they’re only writable one time and read only after that, but I absolutely love the concept of being able to write my entire Plex server to a glass harddrive, plug it in and never have to sorry about it again.

As much as people around these parts despise algorithmic feeds, I suspect an algorithmic feed would’ve worked far better in this situation to feed all academic based content to someone immediately on account creation if they show interest/ follow peers in the field.

This would’ve helped the migration since they most likely don’t know the accounts of the Twitter accounts posting academic content as that was algorithmically fed as well. I’m really doubtful it’s a problem with decentralization, seems to me mastodon had a problem with both not having a critical mass and the content that was there wasn’t easy enough to find.

China <> US relations have actually been at a much better place this last half a year. This articles pretty big on the fear mongering.

As a heavy tiktok user I would probably only use this if it had an algorithmic feed.

I can sit here and spin the exact same question about reducing global exploitation.

Reducing global exploitation would implies self sustainability and with the west, particularly the US, they never reach self sustainability with their current economic model of giving 95% of their production/wealth to the top 1% while a very large portion of its population is struggling economically/mentally/physically.

It’s a stepping stone in the problem of global exploitation, but it can’t happen overnight nor independently.

It is unreasonable to assume a model outside of this will be attainabille within the next two centuries.

Instead let’s focus on drawing back the exploitation within our own country this century then we can shift our perspective. We will never stop exploiting the poorest countries if we’re still exploiting our poorest citizens.

Realistically this graph wouldn’t include Snapchat, as it’s less of a “social media” than the others. Most people nowadays use it strictly as a messaging platform.

I only have Eweka and haven’t had any trouble finding any TV series or movies. No experience with audio books though, but I’d expect similar results since audiobooks are probably less strict with dmca than movies. I also don’t think Eweka respects dmca takedowns.

My fyp is full of bipoc LGBTQ+ people? Twitter on the other hand tries to feed me right wing news sources and disinformation all the time. There’s a spectrum here and TikTok is far on the other side.

Also to be frank the algorithm is by far the best out of any company with a “for you” algorithm. It blows pretty much anything else out of the water entirely.

Your subscribed will be the same. All will differ as it grabs everything everyone on that instance is subscribed to.

Ex. If you’re on lemmyworld you’ll see everything there by default but if you swap to instance X and nobody in x is subbed to niche.community@lemmyworld then it won’t be brought to your All

Lots of people will hate me for this take but the best part of Twitter was its recommendation algorithm specifically between 2018-2021ish. The ability for everyone to meme about the same thing in the span of a few hours was fantastic and hilarious. I generally didn’t give a shit about following famous people and have only been on Twitter for the meme culture.

Nowadays the algorithm is TERRIBLE though. I personally can’t see myself moving to mastodon because I don’t care about individual people though.

Also important to note it’s been well known the CIA uses Matrix internally for communications. If they’re using it for communication it’s probably pretty sturdy.
