It’s like saying Immich is bad because you don’t need to own storage or hardware for Google Photos. I know that. But it’s not a valid point of discussion when talking about open source self hosted software.

Also, you don’t need to open any ports. Just use tailscale. If you’re a bit more technically savvy, set up a reverse proxy. It’s honestly not that hard. Tailscale is just an app that you install. Why is everyone acting like it’s complicated? Am I missing something?

If you’re on Android TV (I guess Fire TV works as well), try out Wholphin. It’s miles ahead of the official TV app. Also, Findroid works great on mobile.

In any case, you shouldn’t be spending over $10/month. You can get much lower. Take a look at this. I don’t know how reliable or secure they are, but they’re very cheap. I’ve used their VPS in the past, and it seemed pretty okay.

Edit: You can also do what I do for heavier stuff like Jellyfin or Immich, and simply use the VPS as a relay. The actual stuff runs on my home server, connects to the VPS via Wireguard, which then masks its IP.

I was just talking to a friend a couple of days ago, that Indian Americans are playing a weird role in US politics. They seem to be some of the worst folks in existence e.g. Kash Patel, Vivek Ramaswami etc.; and also some of the best e.g. Zohran Mamdani, Ro Khanna, Shri Thanedar, Pramila Jayapal etc. There doesn’t seem to be any centrist Indian American politician lol.

Man, I’ll honestly just stick to tea if it comes to that. The only good robusta drink I’ve ever had was some south Indian filter coffee (also kalled filter kaapi). It’s traditionally a mix of robusta and chicory, but you can make it with Arabica if you want. The flavor profile is kinda similar to that of a Mokapot brew.

I’ve always been kinda technically motivated. The only reason I didn’t actually study computer science is that I had a great math teacher who made me fall in love with math. But I had it for a minor, and like to read stuff up from time to time. So, I guess I’m kinda in the grey area in regards to being a person in tech.

Anyway, I love tinkering with stuff, so I inevitably got into self hosting. Nowadays, I’ve even started maintaining some self hosted software.
