Certain units of the Japanese Army conducted a lot of inhumane scientific experiments on human subjects they racially discriminated against during WWII, and the evidence collected was retained by the USA.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are the arguments *against* ending Daylight Savings Time in the USA?
61·6 days agoI wake up between 6 and 7am most weekdays, so the sun coming up at 8 vs 9am makes little difference to me.

World News@lemmy.world•Spain's government denies cooperating with US operations in Mideast, contradicting White HouseEnglish
53·7 days agoThe US government - and they did this with Canada too - have resorted to lying to pretend other countries succumbed to their extraordinarily stupid demands, because other countries have long found out that going along with them brings nothing of value.

8·14 days agoJust last week Pierre went on a tone-deaf dogwhistle in Parliament against immigrants and refugees receiving proper healthcare. He got called out on it on CBC’s Power & Politics by Le Devoir columnist Emilie Nicolas.
To know why they care more about AI’s reputation than their engineers… firing engineers makes stock go up and bad news on their AI makes stock go down.

World News@lemmy.world•Mexico Confirms Cooperating With The U.S. In Operation That Killed Jalisco Cartel Leader El MenchoEnglish
4·16 days agoAccording to Sheinbaum in this morning’s address, the operation was planned and executed by Mexican federal authorities, and pinpointed el Mencho’s location through their own strategic analysis of the information they had. The only involvement of the USA in this operation was the two-way exchange of information and intelligence surrounding the target.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•GrapheneOS can help you retake your privacy, right now. - Veronica Explains
41·18 days agoI’m not due to replace my Samsung Xcover with a headphone jack and removable battery for a while yet, I got it in March 2024…
But when I do in a few years, I’d like the Jolla phone as its app support probably has matured at that point.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Microsoft AI chief gives it 18 months—for all white-collar work to be automated by AI | Fortune
6·20 days agoMicrosoft, how much do you want to wager my job will be replaced by AI? Just assume I also have billions of other people’s money to spend like you do, and give me the sum you bet if this doesn’t pan out.
If it’s downvotes you’re concerned about, I think the fact is that bad scoring aren’t hidden by default like reddit which is why unpopular downvoted takes are more visible. People feel strongly here about their opinions but I wouldn’t worry too much about the amount of downvotes in general so long as it’s not because you’re an asshole or troll.
Social media bubbles are present everywhere, the way the Fediverse is set up I think leads to stronger but smaller echo chambers, which I don’t think is necessarily a bad thing because you choose what kind of group you want to be with and which other “bubbles” you will interact with based on how aligned your values are with other bubbles. You get the choice of what things you want to debate and discuss and what you don’t.

So, what happens when a lemmy server goes down ungracefully (so unlike lemm.ee that made a proper shutdown and closed most communities), the communities stay as a localized version on each server it had connected to, at least last I checked. You can post and will see posts from users on lemmy.world but no one on any other server can see your posts, because the community server was supposed to distribute them. So it becomes more like an archive.

World News@lemmy.world•Air Transat suspending all flights to U.S. as of this springEnglish

World News@quokk.au•UK ban on Palestine Action unlawful, high court judges rule
5·26 days agoFucking finally. It should have been obvious that people waving flags, holding signs silently are not terrorist sympathizers and a little paint doesn’t make a group a constant terroristic threat needing to be monitored.

100mg from one cup of coffee (in the style of a latte, cafe mocha, cappuccino etc.) on weekdays at work, on some weekdays a tea or coffee 50-100mg after lunch if I am feeling particularly tired. None regularly on the weekends, except for the odd time I meet people on the weekend at a cafe or something like that. …and I don’t drink colas.
I’m trying to keep it to a level that I don’t require it to function.
