I think the Big Mac index is a somewhat good measure of buying power since it has to source so many local ingredients.
It’s posts like this that really make me embarrassed to be here on Lemmy. So many people here like to shake their fists at the sky and complain about how the world works. Yes, capitalism leads to major inequality. Other options are out there but also lead to major inequality. Best you can do for you and your family is to try to live well within the system, and vote for the changes you feel will best serve everyone.
Ranting about billionaires not being good people in any case just makes your audience stop listening.
I literally tried One Piece Kai so that I could get to the good part faster and I still didn’t make it. One Piece fans tell me I was almost to the good part. Okay if your good part is 100+ normal episodes in, I’m gonna have to pass on your show.
How do you feel about precision fermentation to make milk products. Presumably this will eventually make cheese we can purchase made entirely without animals. Will you partake in this cheese or just keep the no cheese lifestyle?
Florida has a really great Homestead though, capping your property tax increases to 3% per year. For the insurance, you can probably get Citizens, which isn’t great but it’s something.
Ah I wasn’t clear. I don’t mean government as in Democrats or Republicans. I mean government associations like US Army Corps of Engineers or the US Postal Service.
Maybe we should start a US Army Climate Battalion or something to sound cool and get funding 🤔.
I think a big issue is that the government takes a decades long view. This is great because they can plan how to effectively manage our water and other large scale projects with longevity in mind.
Meanwhile, our corporate CEOs take a quarter of a year view. They’d burn the company to the ground as long as it happens after they are stepping down and makes them look good beforehand.
As someone buying a color screen boox soon, I think it’s worth a mention that the battery is MUCH worse on boox because it has to run android. Like, the boox may last a day or two vs the Kindle Paperwhite lasting a couple weeks.
It’s not a huge issue if you are home a lot and can charge, but I love the Paperwhite because it feels like it ALWAYS is charged. It just doesn’t have the color screen so I guess I will have both now, one for comics and one for books.
But there is actual progress now. For all its faults the Tesla auto drive is probably 95% of the way there. I get that we want it 99.9999999% perfect, and each 9 will take effort, but 5 years ago I think we were only like 40% of the way there. Progress is happening.
The snopes article someone posted goes into that
My brother is a waiter and I had to listen to a rant about how cheap people are by sometimes tipping “only” 20%. He works at a nice place too with large checks.
Tuna is good. Canned tuna, however, needs like a bucket of mayo to make it not dry and terrible. Then it’s delicious fish flavored mayo.
I’d argue about the waste of oxygen thing, but my gen x coworker says she mostly identifies with boomers.
I don’t think they are afraid of losing anything specific. It’s ingrained at this point.
“If you made straight A’s and someone else made straight F’s, how would you feel if you both ended up with C’s? That’s fair right? No? Welcome to the Republican Party. Isn’t everyone who doesn’t agree with this an idiot? I’m glad we aren’t idiots.”
I grew up homeschooled and the Christian curriculum my parents used had similar feeling brainwashing tactics. “Scientists searched their whole lives to disprove the Bible, then ended up Christians instead!” Making you feel smart for not wasting your life like the other guy, you are already in the “good” group.
Which is awesome 😎.
Ceo sucks but he bought a business that makes great cars (once you make sure yours doesn’t have the notorious panel gaps).
It takes me 28 hours to drive from South Florida to New Hampshire in my EV instead of 24 like Google says. That would probably be 25 hours with gas stops though. And it’s actually kind of nice to get out and walk around while it’s charging, especially since I bring my dog. Maybe other routes are worse for charging? I haven’t had any issues.
EVs are rapidly getting cheaper. We do still need better charging infrastructure though
Fahrenheit is nice for the ten degree ranges when talking. “Tomorrow it will be in the 70s”. The entire range of the 70-79 is fairly nice and similar. Every ten degree range is meaningful and different. “Tomorrow it’s in the 90s! :(”
I think that’s incorrect. Not against the honey, but the reasoning. I think it can harbor anaerobic bacteria which the child’s immune system is not ready to handle.
