“more power to them” it it makes them feel better.
What a funny statement. “More power to them” while it won’t do anything because they dont have the power to prevent facebook doing what its doing so its just making them feel better.
Tbh switzerland has a similar system to the SGAE, where there is a “hidden tax” on all devices that you can load with data. And in turn the downloading of media (with the exclusion of computerprograms and games) is legal. Only the upload of copyrighted material is forbidden.
Not a bad system imo, the tax is so small that you dont really notice it so its a pretty consumer-friendly and piracy-friendly solution. Altho I assume the swiss government gets away with it because it would be too expensive to lobby/legal for a copyrightsholder-favoured system compared with the small amount of people (let alone pirate) who live here.
Symphonium: The best money I ever spent on an app.
I am 70% sure this is correct, i remember vaguely: The swiss law was written in 2019 iirc. The idea is that there is a high tax on drives/usb sticks/dvds and all such devices. This gets distributed to copyrightholders in some way. And uploading is illegal.
Just out of curiosity: What kind of files are you talking about?
In my case I’ll use different (network)printers every few weeks for the next year or two
What about conectivity with things like projectors and printers?
Sounds really interesting and like a good piracy use case
You werent coinceally seeding a Völkerball (the Rammstein live Tour-Movie) special edition (3 CD box)? This was the music history i was talkung about in the OP
I assume game ROMs, especially the ones by nintendo, who are notorious of letting their own history getting deleted and lost, are up there on that list.
Thank you a lot! I’ll look into it!
I mean I would accept to get into Linux for the start but I am afraid that my OS will be “a ongoing project” so to say.
Yes, I’ll switch from Windows to Linux but at the moment I dont trust myself to be able to use Linux as I cannot code and havent any deep knowledge about cpmputers. So I hope that in the next few years there will be the compatibility and ease of use on Linux like there is on windows now.
Edit: ok, thanks everyone.
I am very pro open source and very pro linux (obiously)
With “coding” i ment doing stuff with the terminal. I am mostly concerned with stuff not working when it should and then that the fix is only doable in the terminal and requires trial and error and knowledge and so on…
I was mostly discouraged by the LTT videos about Linux as a daily driver, haming and working on linux and so on. And they made it look that you have problems significantly more frequent than on a windows machine.
And yes, i need to use full office suite, most other programms can be FOSS or linux alternatives tho.
Greetings from Winterthur, a pretty nice, human-friendly, town in Switzerland which bunch of old buildings. Also called the bike-city of switzerland. It turns out that the trade off is worth it. I rather have power lines than cars or fuel powered busses.
Ah, I mistook “american cheese” with “cheddar”. The first isnt cheese, the second one is. Those american slices in the "cheese"burger, those that come out od the plastic wrapper, we in Switzerland call them “Cheddar” as well.
