World News@lemmy.world•The Famed 1967 Bigfoot Film Was an 'Incredible Hoax,' Says the Director of a Groundbreaking New DocumentaryEnglish
6·6 days agoShe believes in aliens too, but not in the sense of little green men. She claims that they are prophets from the old testament that time travel, she always mentioned that passage in Kings with a burning chariot in the sky when she was talking about aliens. She gave me a book about it once, I kind of wish I had held on to it for the laughs.

World News@lemmy.world•The Famed 1967 Bigfoot Film Was an 'Incredible Hoax,' Says the Director of a Groundbreaking New DocumentaryEnglish
12·6 days agoI’ve mentioned this before, but my grandmother fully believes in Bigfoot, and claims there are sub-species of Sasquatch that she’s personally seen throughout the US. Debunking this movie won’t matter to her, I doubt she’d even consider for a moment that the footage is fake.
Those snakes sell for like $800

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Question for those who didn't learn cursive
4·14 days agoHe said that if anyone audited they’d need to be able to read my name in the signature. I still trusted him at that point so I didn’t have much reason to question it lol

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Question for those who didn't learn cursive
15·15 days agoWhen I bought my first car, my dad (who owned the dealership lol) shredded the paperwork that I signed in cursive, and made me re-write in block letters. It’s the only car or other big-expense/important thing that I didn’t sign for with my usual signature.
My other confusing problem with that transaction was I wasn’t allowed to buy the kind of vehicle I wanted. Yes, I was already an adult living on my own by then, but I figured he knew best. (he did not)

science@lemmy.world•Tinnitus Is Connected to SleepEnglish
11·25 days agoI had scarlet fever when I was six, and when I recovered I kept trying to turn the TV off even when it wasn’t on. My parents eventually realized the illness gave me tinnitus. It’s so weird to see someone else describe it that way because no one really remembers that sound anymore haha

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your most important meal of the day? Bonus points, what's your most consistently cooked/eaten meal?
1·29 days agoI eat breakfast consistently, usually some form of rice porrige and various veggies. Lunch is my most skipped meal, but I forget to eat dinner sometimes too lol
If I’m lucky I made rice for dinner and have left over to stir fry the next morning

12·1 month agoI’m an idiot that doesn’t understand facial expressions. What is this meant to convey? Or is it meant to be a commentary on many Americans being too large and sick to worry about what the government is doing to people?

science@lemmy.world•Scientists discover a hidden RNA ‘aging clock’ in human spermEnglish
51·1 month agoThis is epigenetics, changes to a genome via stress and environment that are passsed to offspring. We’ve known for a while that older men have children with autism or schizophrenia more often than young men, and investigating the cause and mechanism like they have in this study will help people have healthier children in the future.
The type of RNA that are involved in this study are regulatory, which means they can help or prevent gene activity, and are very important in the development of an embryo because the egg doesn’t have this in abundance like the sperm does

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Improving handwriting when exhausted & slightly psychotic?
2·2 months agoI have no idea what this is called, since I’m still new to Apple, but iPad has a handwriting correction feature in its Notes app. I recently had surgery on my dominant arm, so that feature really came in handy for taking notes at uni. I write in cursive with some mixed symbols and it’s able to handle that.
Maybe when going for a mini laptop you can try finding a tablet that also allows for a Bluetooth keyboard, this way you get practice writing by hand but can swap to keyboard after some time.
Alternatively, you could try the Pomodoro method while writing. I find it helps when my adhd is too stronk

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Surgeons have to have *really* strong stomachs
5·2 months agoFrom personal experience knowing someone who posted that stuff just to get a reaction out of people: he was beat by his dad (who then divorced his mom because she produced “that”) and was severely bullied in high school. It’s not an excuse, he just desperately wanted the world to feel as miserable as he did.
He showed me a video of someone being shot in the head once. Mind you, I’m the kind of person that breaks down when I accidentally run over an animal or hear a bird splat on a high-rise window. He thought it was okay to show me without my consent because the guy lived, but didn’t understand that violence, pain, and disfigurement are just as traumatizing as death.
He diagnosed himself with Anti-social PD while taking a psychology class, take that however you wish
I lived in Seattle and greater area for nearly a decade and had very few complaints about the transit system. I think the worst was it got pretty hot on the busses during the summer when everyone was leaving work lol
I left right as they started working on the light rail, why is traffic still so bad?

Biodiversity@mander.xyz•BLM Says American Prairie's Bison Can No Longer Graze on Public LandsEnglish
4·2 months agoI don’t think what I said contradicts what you said. I live in north central Montana. I just didn’t know the bison were classified as livestock, that’s all :)
What I’ve seen is ranchers pushing for more time and more herd allowance on public lands while western ecologists and native ecologists fight to restore the balance. It’s not just cows that people are fighting over. The ranchers hands also been pushing for beaver culls because they can cause hazards for the cattle. But culling the beavers and increasing the herd sizes has had cascading effects on ecosystems, especially regarding excess nitrogen in our waterways. MSU-N did a multi-year study on Beaver Creek and held a lecture on the results, and they invited the local park council to sit in (hoping they’d learn something). It visibly upset the ranchers, one even tried to argue with the professor that presented the data. To them it’s all an assault on their livelihood.
I’m not even going to go into the effects their grass mixes have been having. It’s all a hot fucking mess, and I think what American Prairie is doing is admirable

Oh, I’ll start! Pentastarm, you’re so handsome!
