  • I hate being the, “I use Arch” guy, but it’s really been a great experience for me with KDE. Minimal issues after a complicated first time setup, but it’s absolutely been worth it. For anyone that’s pretty decent with computers already, and can understand the documentation, I would recommend trying it out. I just converted a laptop the other day to Arch and used archinstall for the first time. It did pretty well other than a couple of small tweaks that most users would never know about in fstab relating to SSDs and LUKS encryption.

There’s a steep learning curve, but it’s made me learn a lot about the Linux operating system and a lot about computers in general.

  • If sometime like the US or multiple EU countries decided to go boots on the ground in Ukraine, what would be an expected response from the region/Russian allies?

I can’t imagine China would want to get directly involved, but maybe I’m wrong. Everyone outside looking in can see that Russia isn’t a super power without the threat of nukes. Who would want to risk everything to support someone like that? What would be the benefit of these different countries to try and intervene on Russian behalf?

It’s probably more simple, like, everyone in that area hates the US, which in itself might be enough reason to get involved. I’m just curious what’s the general consensus is on this.

  • I’m curious about this. I’ve started playing with Reaper and getting into music recording and production. I’m very fresh on the scene and haven’t used any DAWs on any other OS, except viewed protools on Mac. I can’t quite get latency free playback, which may just be user error and configs.

Do you know if something like this will have default benefits out of the box, or will we need to somehow configure our apps and services to utilize these changes? I’m completely ignorant but am really intrigued.

  • You’re right, I had misremembered the phrasing. I just hate that the current state of affairs is everything you put online is going into model training. I feel everything should be opt in. If a company wants to profit off of my stuff, they should have to ask, even if it’s hosted there, especially since when these social media sites first came about, the idea of training data models with user information wasn’t a thing.

I’d begrudgingly accept a cutoff where anything prior to a date where terms were explicitly set to include language for data modeling was excluded. It’s really dumb that the advent of new technologies just allows companies to profit of anyone’s creations with permission.
