Linux@programming.dev•Linus Torvalds posts his first AI-assisted patch to the Linux kernel, synthetic test clocks 23x performance leap — the bossman makes use of AI tooling himself after issuing clear pro-AI directives
15·5 days agoShit site keeps kicking me out for my ad-blocker
I’ve had this exact response from “normie” people I’ve known over the years multiple times.
My guess is that it stems from the old saying “you get what you pay for”, and as such a free service without a megacorp behind it MUST be dodgy and untrustworthy.
What annoys me the most is that when you bring up the topic of privacy it’s always the exact same response, “yeah well I have nothing to hide so it’s fine”

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does it seem like religious people are less animal friendly?English
7·1 month agoGuess I’m going against the grain here, but in my experiences, no not really.
At least here in Aus I’ve never noticed any correlation between animal friendliness and religion. My family for example is very religious (I’m not), and quite conservative (I’m definitely not lol), but they care for animals better than they care for other people.
What I have noticed is more fear from other cultures. For example, I have an Indian neighbour who never grew up around dogs, especially big dogs. When I first picked up my German Shepherd as an 8 week old pup, they were scared shitless of him! Scared of a cute little fur ball, with paws too big for his body just flailing around bumping into things, literally one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen!
Not dismissing the question on religion being linked to animal friendliness, but maybe region and cultural factors are also playing a role here?

Linux@programming.dev•Fish Shell 4.9 Released with Faster Tab Completion
2·2 months agoYeah admittedly I’ve never gone that deep with ZSH specific stuff. Laziness on my part for sure!
I’m glad I asked this question lol, it has got my interests piqued for Fish again!

Linux@programming.dev•Fish Shell 4.9 Released with Faster Tab Completion
2·2 months agoYeah looking at this again with fresh and more matu… ahem experienced eyes, Fish seems very interesting, and frankly quite appealing!
Going to switch over on my laptop for a bit, see how I go with it over the course of a month or 2 before deciding on what to do with my main desktop.

Linux@programming.dev•Fish Shell 4.9 Released with Faster Tab Completion
9·2 months agoDoesn’t the shebang at the top of a bash script negate that compatibility issue anyway?
I remember years ago a YouTuber (I think it was Distrotube) making that same point about Fish, and I had this same thought back then lol.
Although, the Fish scripting looks interesting. Might switch my default shell to Fish on my laptop for a bit, maybe I’m underestimating this lol

Linux@programming.dev•Fish Shell 4.9 Released with Faster Tab Completion
8·2 months agoAh okay, thanks for the response!
I’ve heard of the better completion in the past, but when I tried Fish out I couldn’t tell a difference. I guess I’m not doing anything complex enough in a terminal to notice these issues though

Linux@programming.dev•Fish Shell 4.9 Released with Faster Tab Completion
14·2 months agoIs there anyone that can help answer this? Why use Fish over say ZSH?
I’m a ZSH user, and every system I install one of the first tasks I always do is install ZSH and oh-my-zsh and make ZSH my default shell. However, if you were to ask me why ZSH over Bash, I honestly couldn’t give you a good answer outside of “oh-my-zsh themes look pretty”

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the point of 100-200€ notes when barely anyone uses them for regular transactions?
12·2 months agoBusiness transactions. Think of small business that deal with cash, or paying contractors, etc.
There’s many reasons larger bills still exist, even just larger cash transactions like buying a second hand car gives a reason for larger bills to continue to exist.

7·2 months agohttps://mullvad.net/en/help/connecting-to-mullvad-vpn-from-restrictive-locations
This is what I can find on their website. Last updated April 22, 2026.
Seems like Russia is mostly blocked and China is fully blocked.
This guide lists different settings and methods to connect to Mullvad VPN from networks and countries where connecting to a VPN is difficult. This includes countries such as China, Egypt, Iran, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan.
But Russia, China, and Iran are listed here. So maybe works? I’m confused

4·2 months agoAnd the Fediverse doesn’t have all of those already?
These are inescapable in the modern age internet unfortunately, however the decentralisation of the Fediverse should help in alleviating those symptoms of an open platform.
Nice recommendation with Droid-ify! I completely forgot about this, installing on my phone now too
