Janeway: By the way, when I said “this mission”, I meant the “get back to the Alpha Quadrant” mission.

I know we’re just shitposting, but didn’t she turn down every unethical opportunity given to her?

“I appreciate your concerns, Crewman. But let me make it absolutely clear: I’ll destroy this ship before I turn any part of it over to the Kazon!”

Always thought that was a super weird automated behavior for Utopia Planitia to stick into the ship/computer/LCARS firmware…

      • combat situation
      • Captain (the only one who is briefed on omega stuff) is incapacitated
      • crew trying to, you know, save the ship and not die
      • “omega thingy detected, system lockout activated”
      • crew: what the actual fuck why did the ship stop working and throw an omega on every fucking display?!?
      • crew: can’t operate ship; everyone dies

Like… that’s a tactically idiotic thing to have. Not to mention, a great zero-day exploit to fuck with starfleet, because if you can figure out how to make readings that look enough like an omega particle, you can potentially effectively mission-kill any and all starfleet vessels in the vicinity, under the right circumstances.

Would not the next in line automatically get a battlefield commission making them Captain with security clearance, albeit requiring an in depth briefing?

Also, with the Romulan’s catastrophic experience it would seem to be something so dangerous as to exclude any duplicity, as they also keep it top secret and wouldn’t want public knowledge of Omega Particles.

I love that you’re entertaining Berman Era canon. Thank you. 😂

Yeah, “Computer, this is acting-Captain Redshirt. What is this?”

Surely, if the Omega directive supercedes the Prime directive then there wouldn’t be anything restricting the computer from briefing a new Captain.

Also…Anyone commanding a ship is a “captain”, regardless of rank, per naval tradition that continued into Starfleet. It’s so refreshing to hash out scifi canon instead of politics for a change. It feels like a younger, more innocent time for me. 😮‍💨
