I’m (re)watching through the Evil Dead movies in preparation to see Evil Dead Burn on Thursday night. Watched The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, and Army of Darkness over the weekend. Moved on to Evil Dead 2013 yesterday and Evil Dead Rise tonight.

    Love Boosters

Absolutely amazing and perfect movie, it’s so creative, wierd, funny, and clever.

and it has one of my new favourite tropes, “Subtext is for cowards”.

    Reptile.

It was a mess of a movie. The cast for the most part is top notch! Benicio del Toro Is excellent as is Alicia Silverstone. Justine Timberlake was a block of wood. I have seen him in other things and he is typically serviceable, but man not in this.

The movie was supposed to be a thriller centered around a murdered real estate agent and it started out really good. It set up the murder mystery and the characters. Del Toro plays a detective in a high end suburb and who has it all, a strong group of friends a wife he adores and by all accounts he is living the dream. As you can predict that quickly goes to shit.

Unfortunately as the murder investigation progresses things just got muddled, predictable and kind of silly. There was a whole story line involving the estranged husband of the murder victim that just didn’t make any sense. Also by the end of the movie it is unclear who did the murder.

    We Bury The Dead

It is a zombie movie, and man that genre is just so played out except for a few offerings every now and then that surprise me. This movie is one of them.

The setup is there has been a military accident that has killed everyone in Tasmania, but some people are returning as zombies. Daisy Ridley’s Husband was on a business trip to Tasmania so she volunteers to help bury the dead in an effort to find him and get closure. The first major encounter Ridley has with a Zombie, the Zombie is scared of her and tries to hide.

I got around to watching last year’s Superman movie. Absolute garbage. I didn’t like Man of Steel because I disagreed with its take on Superman, but at least it was a take. The Gunn version was just incoherent nonsense.

I have seen the movie of the year for me: Backrooms. Better than expected, some found footage parts too which always appeal to me. Eery vibe, surreal scares, top notch.

I showed my youngest kid Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Last week we watched Raiders. They loved both.

One of the movies I saw this week was The Drama.

I really liked it and I pity myself that I don’t have anyone to talk to about this film. It is a neat conversation starter and I have so many things I want to talk about when it comes to this film, but alas.

It is also incredibly funny, but in the way where you’re in pain while laughing at these horrific situations.

All the pearl clutching that is done by characters in this movie who are seemingly blind to their own faults, continue to live cruel, cowardly lives while the one person who changed and improved themselves is forever punished for a sin they never actually committed.

Highly relevant movie that goes beyond its immediate subject matter and becomes a discussion on how incredibly intolerant and small minded modern society has become.

I watched The Undertone this week, and it was actually really fucking good. The slow burn was creepy as fuck and the climax was dope and surreal and scary. It gave me an eerie feeling I almost never get from a movie anymore.

    Landscapers (almost finished)

Weird stuff, but very good. Entertaining but not really a comedy IMO, not even a black one. Too psycho. It’s inspired by true events.

I still don’t know why it’s called Landscapers.

Probably a different style because it’s an Uwe Boll movie.

There are low-budget movies that are excellent. But it’s because the director cares about it. And then there’s Uwe Boll. He doesn’t spend more time editing a movie because time is money. And real talent costs money, too. So the result is cheap and full of shortcuts.

The online discussion about “Citizen Vigilante” is entertaining, though.

The most important takeaway of the movie: Don’t forget to burp your house.
