Technology@lemmy.zip•Microsoft fixes broken Windows update days after vowing fewer broken updatesEnglish
2·27 days agoI think that the era of platform locked internal tools is close to being over, at least for smaller organizations.
AI sucks for innumerable reasons, but the ability to create internal tooling for specialized systems is now something that organizations of smaller and smaller sizes can now take advantage of. IE, write a printer interface that does xyz for our machine and integrates with CUPS instead of a windows print server. Now we can save a Windows server license and an expensive proprietary software license.
AI is still absolutely terrible though. Never open a port to anything vibe coded ever.

1·1 month agoOccam’s razor probably points to having access to graph paper in school and connecting corners.
Why an S?
That all has to do with Cthulu as S is widely known as his favorite letter.
I think so, just a relatively famous copypasta.
I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux

Also,
Dont cheap out on anything that keeps you off the ground. (Tires, shoes, mattress etc)
I’m not saying you have to do it but you can get the standard Microsoft fonts on Linux, they are just an extra download.
I would like to plug Mailo. Its explicitly privacy focused, has a free tier and even has child inboxes with more restrictions. Its like $75 per year and I have had nothing but great luck with it.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•OpenAI Says ChatGPT's Random Suggestion to Shop at Target Is Not an AdEnglish
11·5 months agoThis always seemed like the ultimate goal of a chatgpt or a Gemini.
Attract: make a service that magically gives answers, killing the old ways to find or research information.
Extract: once everyone trusts AI implicitly, weave in advertising without anyone’s knowledge, allowing for extremely subtle and effective brainwashing.
I like both. But a ridiculous dub can add a lot of fun to an already ridculous movie.IE All Monsters Attack
Japanese monster fighting movies. Godzillas especially but it needs to be guys in rubber suits doing stunts shot in slow motion. If you have that, I’m there. No matter how bad the acting no matter how bad the story, no matter how horrendous the dub. Give me big rubber monsters fighting and I’m there.

2·6 months agoThe Predator will call a human “one ugly motherfucker”. God of course. Meta, edgy, flipping the script just to be different without justifying it in the story. Hollywood perfection.

2·6 months agoYes, because theres nothing teens like more than a long dormant (until recently) 80s action movie franchise.
The other thing young people famously like is paying to go to movie theaters.
I hope I’m wrong. Prey was pretty cool, but I dont see myself going out of my way ro see it and I would consider myself a pretty big Predator fan.

2·6 months agoThe only time I look at ratings are for horror movies. A PG13 horror movie is usually not something worth my time. There are exceptions to every rule bit still.
Usually I want something to move up to PG13 rather than down from R.

Some people would stand for that sort of thing but frankly I can’t imagine why…
