Between Brave Little Toaster, the Punky Brewster Challenger scene, and the swamp scene in Neverending Story, it’s a wonder the way I am.
Hi! I’m Katherine, or webkitten. I’ve been on the internet since our family got our first computer - a Tandy Sensation.
Yes, I went to computer camp as a kid and learned how to program BASIC on Radio Shack TRS-80 Model 4.
I’m trans, queer, and bisexual. #actuallyautistic
I started programming with PHP in the mid 90s and haven’t stopped. I’m an advocate for the open web; I used Netscape as long as I can remember.
I have an obsession with Hello Kitty, Moogles, and Squishmallows.

We want Homerun Homer.

It has basic app folders; I just meant some of the controls that you can do in Nova like setting folders to specific tabs, showing apps in folders in main draw, etc.
(I’m on Obtainium Lawnchair Nightly 1/22/26)

Well that’s not going to hold up in court.

This is exactly why the first thing I did was disable updates for Nova, just in case.
I have been using Lawnchair Nightly as my default home screen though; there are a couple of things that aren’t carried over from Nova (mainly folder and tabs in app drawer) but for the most part it’s pretty comparable.

I tried it for a year to compare it to 1password, but I didn’t like the fact that their Notes type didn’t include markup.
If I wasn’t already invested in 1P, however, I would definitely use it and be happy with it.

Please Sam bring Colbert to Dropout.

Keep in mind, even IF something could be done by GUI, if you ask for help, 95% of the replies are immediately going to tell you to open CLI…
To be fair, you’d find that with Windows too; someone telling you to run some command in Powershell or the prompt (even Start > Run).

On Linux Mint, most updates and backups can be automated; installing ClamTK from Software Manager can be automated; the Software Manager, itself, is a GUI.
The terminal is helpful but required? Not really.

If media companies make it impossible to buy and own content, then pirating is not unethical.
Debian; comes on Linux or on a tiny blue pill.

I think I was about 16 1/2? We did night time (?) Drivers Ed classes in my high school with my geography or history teacher (he was awesome) and then we had road experience with a local drivers ed instructor.
I remember when it came time to do the road test, he actually took us through the actual course first so we were prepared and then during the actual test I got “warned” about being a little too far into the road turning at an intersection to go back to the RMV but the instructor I had backed me up because I had to go due to the other person turning the other way so I could see around him.
Honestly, nothing wrong with not having a license. I hate driving, to be honest. If you can get places without cars (or at least without driving your own, more power!)

Lawnchair Nightly; it’s not as good as Nova, yet, but it’s getting there.

Donating to your local affiliate is good but I also recommend, if you can, to donate to other smaller affiliates too - especially the community public radio stations and ones not as focused on the news site of things.
Personally PBS, Dropout, Beacon, and Democracy Now are the only streaming services I pay for and don’t pirate.

Adguard won’t work but uBlock Origin on Librewolf or Firefox works with at least the EasyList subscription (possibly Peter Lowe’s too). You can also use either the built in tracker in Vivaldi (just go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Manage Sources) and enable EasyList/disable the Allow ads from our partners).
Vivaldi also supports MV2 uBlock Origin for now; it will say it’s not supported but Vivaldi is fighting the removal of MV2).
I’ve had a good mix of filters and haven’t gotten the adblock warning for Youtube (knock on wood). It’s been a while since configuring but I think enabling Disable pre-fetching (to prevent any connection for blocked network requests and I’m an advanced user will help out.
I have all the uBlock Filters, EasyList, AdGuard, AdGuard/uBO – URL Tracking Protection, Block Outsider Intrusion into LAN, Online Malicious URL Blocklist, Phishing URL Blocklist

We just need an Old Piefed theme. :)

There is an opt-out. It’s called deleting your account. An people should do it.

Imagine a nostalgic ezboard replacement built on top of Piefed. :)
Also I know what you mean, I’ve been looking at the source code and learning. I’d love to see some alternative themes like Lemmy has (especially an “old Reddit” type of theme for Piefed.
A reminder you can donate to AA though a multiple number of ways including a simple Amazon gift card and it takes less than 5 minutes.
