I did this but the power never went out. I don’t drink bottled water, but my freezer is full of them now now. Do I just defrost them all in a big pot or something?
But what about the comic?! The comic says I don’t have to change my lifestyle to align with my purported values! It absolves me of my responsibility to do anything beyond complain, no matter how trivial the change required! Doesn’t the comic say complaining about a problem is basically just as good as actually contributing to fixing it?
Nope, the placebo effect can have physical effects and be genuinely curative. The level to which this is the case is highly variable from patient to patient, but it is inaccurate to say that is limited to improving sensation and perception of illness. Not to mention, in many cases the malady being treated is one of perception, for example, in pain management. And alleviating pain in itself has downstream positive effects on disease progression and patient QOL.
Ask your questions here! The lemmy archives aren’t as deep as Reddit’s yet, but one by one well get there!
Holy shit, the tl;dr bot has made it over. Thank the lord!
Incredibly accurate. It’s nuts how they all could be one person.
Oh man this gives me an idea for a great meme. Imagine place, Japan, but instead it’s “place, r/place”.
When I start feeling like this that’s when I know it’s time to trim another social media account.
Actual Facebook meme, but it confirms my biases, so upvote.
Nope—upvoting doesn’t add to the user count for whatever reason. Deleted comments do though!
It’s nuts, the drop in quality since even two weeks ago(let alone 2 years ago) is actually insane. I always thought 90-9-1 was a bit of copium by users wanting to feel more important than they were, but even the relatively small protests/migration has torpedoed the atmosphere generally.
Whatever the ideal decentralized setup may be, the truth of the matter is that the current setup makes it significantly harder to surface content from instances outside of one’s own. I’d prefer to point people towards lemmy.world than to send them to a smaller server and have to field questions about why the servers they’re trying to join are out of date or possibly not available at all. As people get more comfortable with the setup, they can branch further out into the federation as they please.
BeeHaw defederated all the major lemmy instances, pointing someone towards a website where they can’t interact with 80% of other users for reasons they likely don’t care about seems silly. If people want to make BeeHaw accounts once they learn about it, more power to them. But the average user is going to want as seamless of a transition as possible, and getting a crash course on defederation is the exact opposite of that.
Anya definitely has had some exposure to a medical/genetics environment early in life. There are very few 4-6 year olds that can use words like clone and chimera as fluently as she does. The same exposure probably explains her knowledge of Latin, which is the most common ancient language prep schools teach.
