  • At first I was annoyed, but thinking about it this way made it more palatable to me :

You give your new show a long-ass title. If people like it, it’ll naturally get shortened by those conversing about it.

Having a short title thus becomes a privilege that has to be earned. I can deal with that.

  • Readind that article makes me… I don’t know. I’m not ‘mad’, I’m fucking restless. First, the torture, sure. We knew the current* Israeli government is monstrous. (*I don’t know about all the previous ones, I’m not versed in Israeli history.) But the response from the Swedish embassy?

And, after all that, what’s the response of the world? Similar to the Swedish government response as shown here. Evasive, absolutely unwilling to stand up to the monsters. Being monsters themselves by proxy.

I feel like I must act, but know not what to do. I’m restless. I feel like our world is stuck in some kind of non-Newtonian liquid made of Capital, Hunger for Power and Gutlessness. I feel like I want to round up all those monsters, ship them on an island and make sure there’s no way out - have fun amongst yourselves, monsters. I know this isn’t realist. I know not what to do. Calling my minister here in Canada doesn’t do shit - our government is as gutless as all others. Standing in the street hasn’t done much either, nor participating in event in support of Gaza and the wish to put an end to the massacre and torture of a whole people.

‘I have no mouth, and I must scream’

  • Thinking it’s only about the LLMs is pretty reductive, though I guess it makes for an easily digestible statement.

We don’t ask people to be mad about the tool, it’s about how we’re being told The Tool is the most important human endeavor, while the mass usage of The Tool has yet to prove more worthwhile than having a chat with a friend, all the while we create a lot of ethical, ecological and economical debt in order to keep evolving The Tool, and funneling most of the products of that debt into the hands of people who already have more than enough.

So The Tool as of yet has had way more negative direct and side effects, by the combined effect of its (mis)use, its Herculean development and the massive, global pitch sale effort invested in deploying it to ubiquity, than any projected positive outcomes that comes out of the mass deployment and usage of The Tool.

It has its very specialized used. It should have remained in the labs and backends where it belongs.

This is what - to me, one of the Luddite who would rather stop this cancer from growing - we are mad about, and why, given the scale of things at this moment and what is projected, think people should be more in the know of the revolting realities that are not said in all those nice press releases and consumer expos.
