Only cz specific and you will need translation. There are few links.
Yesterday was published map of expected flooding. https://www.irozhlas.cz/zpravy-domov/povoden-voda-rozliv-zaplavy_2409132312_cib
In Jeseníky mountains- more than 300mm
Where I live worst forecast- nearly year worth of rain in 3 days
Brno totally unprepared (don’t have finished flood mitigation) so they evacuate…
Yes it looks scary but they had at least few days to prepare dams (in 97’ and 02’ floods it wasn’t the case). So it shouldn’t be that bad.
Yeah they asked to lower the level of Elbe, denied…
This may be better, you can set the cumulative precipitation so it gives better picture of the situation.
This was posted 2 days ago on mastodon. The guy makes info graphics for CHMU (Czech meteorogical institute).
It is just dumb, they can’t control all border crossings because lots of them look like this:
It is border AT-CZ but Jon Wort on mastodon has more examples and his perspective on blog.
Old enough that I briefly encountered floppy disks but still young enough that someone tried to explain to me what the “save” symbol means.
Other thing is there are small communities with 1-2 mods so you know them and they aren’t usually “the superuser” that mods 10 different communities.
I don’t say there are none of them, just that it is usually small and you recognize the mod that just steer his small community.
For wine it is universal, but yes I can’t get decent cider without paying premium, I think that in UK it is different.
Wine - it is full of marketing gimmick and usually the mid range is best. The same is with whisky, rums and other alcohol.
On the other hand, at least here, is better to pay premium for craft beer.
Loads of interesting news are covered only nationally. What I linked was really fresh and probably not interesting for foreign media but because it was related to earlier post that got some traction I just linked what I found.
Sorry, for linking some non English articles. I got some feedback from other community that it is fine (even thanked me for it, that it makes the content more diverse).
I like what @tymoty@f.cz does, he tries to make multilingual conversation about eu and other stuff on his blog and mastodon.
As a native speaker of language that is spelled the way its written. I can say that most of them are weird.
In CZ there is this weird mix of people who really want to change it for better, bureaucracy red tape, NIMBY’s and people who don’t care. So the projects move slowly and sometimes even planners are pissed that they are changed in process.
The public transport is generally good, sometimes even in rural areas. Cycling infrastructure is sometimes hit or miss and isn’t considered much.
I heard wild stories from paramedic about people with chronic pain.
It is not uncommon to get calls from relatives like: " Our grandma fell, broke leg, and didn’t want to bother you. She is on other side of city and we can’t get to her."
And it turns out that it is open fracture but because she is in pain all the time, she didn’t think it is big deal.
It is first image I found in my gallery that can be used as reaction.
It is one good thing that somehow survived 90’s chaos - public transport.
One year pass for all ČD trains cost about 900 €/year; most cities have year pass under 200€.
