i didnt come across lemmy, specifically. i wanted to build a public reddit clone, and found ‘kbin’, which federated both microblog (mastodon/universodeon/threads) and threaded forums (lemmy)… so i built that. kbin has since died, but was resurrected in a fork named mbin.
so im not technically on lemmy, but our instance fully federates with it.
ive been actively recruiting users from reddit who dont like swimming in bot farms talkin to eachother.
it was also kicked up to the surface on the (ironically) high seas due to the recent death.
prolly should have spent more time on that than marketing an unfinished ‘product’'. its kind of telling also that it works in an app better than a simple web api. im betting this shits not going to scale well.

wtf is the point of federation if it doesnt work on the systems its federating to like the boatload of browser-based systems??
sounds like an issue with your local instance. federation seems to work, as you imply the post shows in the remote community.
i have seen that behavior before with database/process issues causing the local post not to show despite it being successfully sent to the remote.
it does matter. they are technically managed by their local isntance, and do not share content. usually one will become ‘popular’ until the mods shit themselves, and everyone moves to a different instance. its one of the benefits of the 'verse
on some platforms, like my mbin instance links shared between communities are aggregated so you can view which one is getting the most activity
youre upset that a remote instance can police its own content. but youre confused why your local copy of their data gets modded… you just dont like the fact that a community can police itself and that that moderation flows to remote copies of their community.
if you really want to circumvent this, you would spin up your own instance and prevent federated moderation. but you have to admit that youre ignoring the wishes of that remote community to moderate their content.
e. now that i think about it, if you get banned at the instance level, well, youre SOL. because they are rejecting you/your addition to their content.

you seem to be annoyed that a remote community can police itself.
your local instance is using some other servers content, of course its going to adhere to the moderation of that remote instance (federated moderation).
if you dont like the moderation of a remote community its your duty to make a new one somewhere else. this happens regularly when lemmy.world or .ml mods go overboard into fedora territory. if users agree, they will follow
cheapest. there hasnt been an innovation since they added bluetooth i care or need.
my phone is [generally] not used for content consumption, i have real machines for that.
someone has to pay for infrastructure. i think if we can solve for intra-instance load balancing, community-funded instances and maybe centralized content hosting services instances could subscribe to it might get us to the next level. not sure after that.
so far it seems like an over-marketed unfinished piece of vaporware. there was nothing to look at when it was first dripped months ago. or when the magical countdown stopped. or when no one received beta invites despite it being ‘this week’
just seems like a lot of spamming the fed community now. happy to be proven wrong
i feel like the newsgroups could also be pegged as an early distributed/mass-audience environment similar to what we see today… multiple nodes sharing sometimes identical loads of content

my work for the community has been purely volunteer for more than a year now (and less than half of it had been payable before that).
theres a manual fix for this. in mbin, when you attach the image in a post and save, it is uploaded and shown. you can then grab the image link (right click image, copy link), edit the post, and add the link using the image tag, and save, it then shows in-line in lemmy.
yeah, it sucks but at least it works until this is implemented. ive been usin this method for over a year now…
