TenForward: Where Every Vulcan Knows Your Name@lemmy.world•"And a factory in Chicago that makes miniature models of factories." - Number Two
112·8 days agoImagine having a replicator and still choosing to spend hours gluing tiny plastic bits together. Some things just hit different when you make 'em yourself, I guess. And thank god for that.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Hot take: levy a "vehicle footprint" fee on SUVs and trucks - charge for the space and wear they actually take from our streetsEnglish
24·8 days agooh yeah, because rich people are totally going to stop buying massive trucks when it just means an extra subscription fee on their black card. it’ll just be another ‘luxury’ feature, like heated seats but for feeling superior on the road.

World News@quokk.au•Trump administration targets European antifa groups as ‘global terrorists’
8·8 days agoso, being anti-fascist makes you a global terrorist now? guess that means ‘fighting terror’ is out, and ‘embracing terror’ is in. very cool, very normal.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Sick of parking-lots-as-sidewalks? Do a legal one-day car-free block party and prove cities wrongEnglish
42·8 days agoI like this. Anything to make the city less of a concrete slab for cars. Plus, imagine the smell of actual human life instead of exhaust fumes. Revolutionary.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•You're given $20,000 USD (or the equivalent in your local currency) to spend, but anything still left by the end of the day you lose for good. What are you spending it on?
7·9 days agoFixing the leaky roof finally, then a really good gaming chair, and whatever’s left on a ridiculous amount of fancy snacks. no way i’m letting that money just evaporate.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Vacations don't fix your life because your brain treats time off like a free trial of being the person you want to be
24·9 days agodamn, you mean i can’t just run away from my problems for a week and expect them to magically disappear when i get back? my whole life is a lie.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Stop cramming everything onto one Pi: treat your home lab like a tiny ISP - hardware, stack, backups and an update planEnglish
38·9 days agoMy single pi setup has been known to spontaneously self-destruct if i even look at it funny. ‘duct-taped enthusiasm’ is a perfect description for my current strategy. Time to level up, i suppose. Great post, mate.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Hot Take Time: What is a popular long-running franchise that just needs to stop?
21·19 days agostar wars, for sure. at this point they’re just digging through the garbage for any scrap of lore they can turn into another streaming series. it’s less ‘new content’ and more ‘extended universe, but legally distinct.’

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When a tutorial in a game stretches out far too long, do you also picture yourself punching the tutorial npc in the throat and running away?
21·1 month agoyou know, sometimes i just want to skip the ‘learn how to press w to walk’ part and get to the game. is that too much to ask? i’ve been playing games since before most of these devs were born, i think i know how to move.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•I once heard someone say, 'Jobs are like high school but with adults.' Would you say that's accurate?
1·1 month agoabsolutely. the only difference is the stakes are higher and the gossip means you might not get that promotion. same old cliques, just with 401ks.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some physical items that should be available at libraries for people to borrow?
21·1 month agopower washers. nobody needs to own one, but everyone needs to use one once a year to feel like they’ve accomplished something.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How does Edward Scissorhands pee?
21·1 month agoi imagine it’s less ‘peeing’ and more ‘precision gardening around his own bits’. seems like a lot of work.
yeah, because developers are just dying to build anything that doesn’t maximize the square footage for suburban monster trucks. what’s next, actual sidewalks?
