  • It’s not stolen. Brief history lesson:

The lands of Israel and Jordan used to be part of the Ottoman Empire. The Ottomans sided with the Nazis.

Brief aside: we know the Arabs believe that if you win a war, you win the land, and if you lose a war, you lose the land, because that’s what they want to happen with Israel. So this principle applies to them as well.

When the Nazis lost, the Ottomans also lost, and that’s where the British and French Mandates began. The land was no longer owned by the Arabs because, according to the principle they live by, they lost the war, therefore they lost the land.

The British Mandate for Palestine comprised an amount of previously Ottoman land, of which they allocated one third to the new country Israel (which includes Gaza and the West Bank), and two thirds to the new country Transjordan, later renamed Jordan. The land of Israel was not stolen by the Jews from the Arabs, it was lost by the Arabs in a war they lost. But they got two thirds of that land back, i.e. Jordan.

No, what he’s saying is that since all actions start with a thought (for example, one does not just commit adultery; there’s a period of “I wouldn’t mind a bit of that”), it can be helpful to consider the thought as bad as the action for the purpose of weeding that behaviour out of our lives. Not that the thought is as bad as the action, because clearly it isn’t. Continuing with the example: when we find ourselves thinking like that, it is at that point we should catch ourselves and think about something else instead. Attempting to stop yourself just before you rip her knickers off is unlikely to be quite as successful.

Similarly 29 and 30 are not suggestions of actual self-mutilation. Your eye cannot cause you to sin; it is exaggeration for the sake of making the point. You see something, you think about it, then you act on that thought. But if the act is sinful then we should attempt to stop the act at the earliest possible point.

Those two vehicles are different. The one behind carries more people, can tow greater weight and with the right tyres probably has better capabilities off-road and in poor weather (floods and snow, for example). If the owner only needed it for the boot space then they’d be daft to get the bigger one (and probably wouldn’t, due to fuel efficiency) but how does anyone here know what the owners need them for? Judging by looks is rather passé these days isn’t it?

  • Well let’s have a look at the Tory track record of implementing things effectively. How about Boris’s oven ready deal? Seems he didn’t have one. Was he lying? Or did he have one that he thought the EU would accept until they laughed him out of the room? How’s the Rwanda plan going? How much has it cost so far? How many flights have left? Hmm.
