The breathing space between the constant fire hose of bad news is what I miss most from Reddit. Too many old (I assume) curmudgeons on Lemmy want this to be a 90’s Linux forum with a Politics discussion board and are hostile to any fun. So many times I’ve seen sentiment from users that anything mentioned should only be here if it’s going to lead to deep, informed, structured conversation. I always picture those people like Kyle’s dad from South Park sitting down at his PC in his office with a glass of red wine in hand (minus the vitriol that follows).

While there’s obviously space for those discussions here it’d be nice to have more purely fun memes and discussions. Ones not about an ongoing genocide, or state run police crack downs, or companies invading deeply personal private information. More often than not Lemmy is deeply depressing with no respite.

Ah, you see it’s easy! 10°C is 70°F in Canada and 30°C is 35°F in Australia. Fahrenheit is based upon comfortable temperature and since that differs by person and population the amount differs too!

Something that I don’t think has been mentioned is that even the free tier has screen sharing with audio at 720p30 or better resolution at like 1 fps for text legibility.

This makes Discord great for things like watching a friend play a game that you may enjoy watching them play but not enjoy yourself. Better coordination in team games when your friends are bad at game comms. Troubleshooting PC issues, collaboration on projects etc

We have a customer at work where the start of every one of his phone calls is both a jump scare and hearing risk. Real nice guy but we just got headphones with noise compression and I’m so thankful!

That’s why I find posts here like “Fast-MBysoon is getting a major update!” funny. The amount of times they just assume you know what it is and then you go into the comments and the only one is “care to say what Fast-MBysoon is?” So many FOSS users just assume everyone knows about their Microkernel-Based YAML Synchronisation Object Notifier project is.

I suffer from headaches from overstimulation and warm screen tones help with that. A friend of mine who works in IT once had an eye infection, when he went back to work he was still struggling but when I told him about f.lux (back before it was a feature built into OS’s) it helped him a lot.

I’ve never been sold on ‘blue light’ being a problem but there’s definitely something that makes warm tones just a bit nicer on the eyes.

We just have to create a penguin reserve on Pluto and make sure no dark matter tankers fly within 30ft of it to avoid toll booths.
