I switched to full-time Linux this year. One of my programmer friends, whom I never expected to embrace Linux, switched to full-time Linux and is not going back. Our libraries have switched to Linux on all user-facing computers. 2 of my e-friends have approached me about Linux. Another friend is, despite not being a computer nerd, going to switch because Windows is forcing him to- and that’s my point. It’s not that Linux doesn’t have deep flaws inherent to its development model, it’s that those flaws are now less significant than those of Windows. Nobody likes Windows 11 and it’s pushing people off.

Sounds an awful lot like a piracy tax… We pay this tax on any device which can store bits, it’s not just some storage mediums. If you buy a phone, you’re paying this tax to a “”“non-profit”“” org called CopyDan whose sole job is to make sure a few select fat cat copyright holders get paid. If I don’t break their copyright, I still have to pay as if I did. Therefore, it’s a piracy tax.

I know its antithetical to Flatpak sandboxing, but I genuinely spent hours trying to move a non-Flatpak profile to flatpak and gave up. I gave the Flatpak filesystem permissions and then it would use the usual ~/.firefox folder, even if it says it doesn’t in about:profiles.

I can’t explain why any of this works the way it does but it appears that Firefox is just very confused about profiles when it exists in a Flatpak container.
