We’ve got to stop trying to figure some things out. Like, just let it go. Maybe if you figure it out on accident, keep it to yourself.

Is that any different than a human moral code? We like to think we have some higher sense of “truth” but in reality we are only parroting that “facts” we hold as true. Through our history we have professed many things as truth. My favorite fact that I just learned yesterday is that we didn’t discover oxygen until after the founding of the United States. Are the humans before 1776 any less human than us? Or are they trained on a limited data set, telling people that the “miasma” is the cause of all their woes?

But, like a human, it mostly tries to stick to the truth. It does get things wrong, and in that way is more like a 5 year old, because it won’t understand that it is fabricating things, but there is a moral code that they are programmed with, and they do mostly stick to it.

To write off an LLM as a glorified chatbot is disingenuous. They are capable of produce everything that a human is capable of, but in a different ratio. Instead of learning everything slowly over time and forming opinions based on experience, they are given all of the knowledge of humankind and told to sort it out themselves. Like a 5 year old with an encyclopedia set, they are gonna make some mistakes.

Our problem is that we haven’t found the right ratios for them. We aren’t specializing the LLMs enough to make sure they have a limited enough library to pull from. If we made the datasets smaller and didn’t force them into “chatbot” roles where they are given carte Blanche to say whatever they say, LLMs would be in a much better state than they currently are.

The point is that they are supposed to be a neutral party. It doesn’t matter if they are pro-Trump or not, what matters is that they are a fucking privacy service. I don’t want my privacy beholden to any party affiliation. I don’t want to worry if my information is going to be sold to whomever the party-du-jour is. I want the security that comes with the understanding that my privacy is what is most important to them. When they get on a rant about who does what and to whom, I have to wonder if that means that they’ll serve my info up on a silver platter when I start getting emails from a party they don’t like. I don’t give a fuck what they said about either party, what I give a fuck about is what any of it means for the information that passes through their system. I need some aspect of my fucking life to be party agnostic. As it stands, I’m not even sure I can count on my fucking refrigerator to not report back what brands of beer I buy because some company may or may not support Trans rights. The only reason Europe stopped colonizing is because you were too broke after World War II to continue. You didn’t “learn a lesson”, you got your asses kicked by an art school drop out. All you Europeans like to pretend you are so enlightened, but you’re just too broke to go back to your old ways. There is a certain level of dark irony in this situation that I am enjoying. I’ve heard so much bullshit about “America, fix your country!” And now it’s your problem, and it turns out that it isn’t so easy to do when the rules aren’t written for you. The rules are always written by those in power to stay in power, and for all the huffing and puffing Europe has done despite the cluster fuck of Brexit, it turns out you really aren’t in a much better position to effect change than we are.

And before anyone gets any ideas about saying, “Well, the oligarchs got their power in America,” why don’t you take a look at where the money comes from and where the addresses on the tax free, no questions asked bank vaults lead to. Europe has been enabling this shit for centuries.
