As a base: The Linux kernel source, GNU software sources and compiler binaries so I can - in theory - write missing software myself. For convenience probably some stable, offline-installable, ready to use distros.
I would probably also archive sources and binaries of day-to-day software like web-browsers (I might still have an intranet to use), office tools, photo management software, audio/video players and all the codecs, etc.
I think that’s a solid starting point but im sure I’m missing something important :D

Okay, will choose another country to visit next then. One of all the fellow EU countries I can freely visit without any sort of visa. The UK needs the EU and shoot’s themselves if you ask me

HP is a struggle (but yeah, Windows is too)

You found the words I didn’t find. Sometimes it’s good to just write down all of your thought I guess.

When Russia invaded Ukraine… It may sound like the first thing that came to my mind but for a few days I thought Russia would attack my country as well. Before, I was feeling very safe in my country.
Of course that’s only the direct impact on me personally. Let’s not forget how Ukrainians feel
Omg yes, I absolutely fell in love with Kao Soi! We went hiking in the jungle when we were near Chiang Mai - some of the most beautiful nature I’ve ever seen (I’ve not been to a lot of places in south/east Asia, though).

I’m currently using Mlem on my iPhone. It recently got updated to version 2.0 and this made it a much better experience than before. Plus it’s a native app which I personally like.
Agreed. But as long as people don’t actively leave Lemmy in favor of the new service I’d be okay with it I guess. I mean it would still be cool if Lemmy grew larger but hey, we got a nice little community here

Well that’s kind of rewarding indeed :D

I’d seriously consider quitting my job if my managers sabotaged work like that

Same here!

In my personal opinion: Yes. Wine is great and all, but in the end it’s an emulation layer that - in the worst case - requires a lot of tweaking. I personally wouldn’t want to spend that time so a VM sounds like a good option. But again, depending on the context (e.g. limited hardware resources or the amount of time available) you might be totally fine with Wine.

Now I get your point. Technically, I think it could be possible to only include the changes in Chrome. It would make sense for Google to push the changes all the way down to Chromium, though, as this would eliminate ad blockers on many competing browsers as well. Judging based on the past I would say this is what’s gonna happen

I guess so. I don’t get your second point however. Chromium is as independent from Google/Chrome as your banking app from your bank account.
Sometimes you have to learn the hard way…

It’s not an Apple fanboy but imo it’s a lot more transparent on their side. There’s a switch for each and every service to use iCloud or not in the settings. Services don’t just re-enable their usage of iCloud after some random update and most importantly, they don’t just re-install apps you previously deleted. Or bloatware.
Maybe that’s because of your extremely niche hardware vendor not providing appropriate drivers for their hardware?! Honestly, I read your salty comments under this post and your kind of attitude really pisses me off. Don’t like the experience? Totally fine, don’t use Linux and move on. Linux, for the most part, is FOSS software so feel free to contribute to it instead of complaining about things being broken. Linux is also free in terms of cost. So quite frankly, the developers of your distribution of choice owe you nothing.
