It’s relatively quick and easy to fix if you have a live boot Linux usb stick …and probably a second machine so you can Google what to do. It’s just also rather worrying at the time.

I really wish Excel would work on wine. It’s the only reason I do occasionally fire up windows on my duel boot. (And no the open source / browser based spreadsheet options don’t always suffice, brilliant as they are).

My main issue is I’m not shutting down my Pi-Hole, home assistant, NAS etc etc just to plug in something like this in, and then 24h or so later shut them all down again to retrieve it again. That said I basically have a collection of Pis (passively cooled and this silent) and a Synology disk station so the power use is pretty low.

They seem to have resolved their supply chain issues for now. I could buy a Pi 5 and have it dispatched tomorrow, and I did buy a Pi 4b recently, no issues with delays or lead times.

…or Mint depending whether they’d rather move up, or down the hierarchy.

Not even sure it’s EEE, they just clone and provide the clone of a good product for free and/or as part of windows.
Their products are usually only second best, but kill the market leader anyway.

Pi zero W has WiFi, alternatively there are hats available. And yes they can run a full Rasbian OS.

There are already plenty of audio hats available, indeed they are recommended for better quality sound.

Sales tax is the most obvious example of adding to the cost I’ve been shown, but it’s everything. Here if there is a price on something that is the price you pay. Period.
If I have €5 and the price on the shelf is €4.90 we are all good, and I don’t even need to know what country I’m in!

But is is more than that, if I take my car in to be fixed, they have to agree every cost they want to charge me in advance at no point can anything cost me more than I expected and agreed to up front.
Airline tickets, theatre tickets, hospital bills, TV ads, you name it, the price they state or advertise is what I pay, no ifs-no buts.

As a European I’ll never cease to find it mind blowing that it is normal for a Americans that the cost to them of damn near everything is more than the cost initially shown to them.

Not sure I fully agree. These tool are really ruddy brilliant at certain things (like writing or translating computer code, drafting certain documents) but they are poor at being factually correct. Unless / until they find a way to fact-check themselves I don’t see them replacing search, just complementing it.

Ernest switched the upvote from being boosts to favourites shortly before the Reddit exodus, he did this to better align with Lemmy.
Boosts and Favourites are both wider fediverse things - using them keeps compatibility there.

The switch is implemented in hot and top sorting (as you note I think a upvote/favourite counts 50% of a boost), but it sounds like reputation wasn’t fixed at the same time, for now reputation is boosts less downvotes which Ernest himself has acknowledged doesn’t make much sense.
