  • I don’t know the answer, but I wonder if it’s something to do with human feelings and motivations appearing inconsistent and being difficult to understand for autistic people. Anecdotally, my brother understands what emotions are and recognises them in himself and others, but he finds it difficult to understand why people react or feel differently from him. He has empathy, but he can’t always apply it; if I’m upset and crying over something he doesn’t find upsetting he’s like ??? By personifying objects he gets to imagine and practice empathy, without the vagaries of human emotion and individual differences muddying the waters.

I have nothing to base this on but my own experiences so I could be way off, but that’s my two cents!

The Memmy app has been having an issue where every single comment you write has 2 upvotes as standard, not the usual 1. Not gonna lie, I thought I was mildly funny/interesting until Memmy acknowledged the error in one of their updates. 🥲

Edit: they just fixed the issue but this comment has a real upvote and I can now go to sleep feeling socially validated!

  • Why? It’s useful for people who struggle to read the tone of replies, and let’s be honest, that’s happened all of us at some point.

What I want to see die is the ridiculous swapping of letters for symbols in words like r@pe or su!cide. This is not TikTok or Instagram, your Reddit/lemmy posts are not monetised. You do not need to censor trigger or swear words.

  • Are you in the UK? It’s 13C where I am at the moment but my partner and I went to watch the tennis last week and even with factor 50 on he suffered the worse sunburn I’ve ever seen irl. The extreme highs we’ve been experiencing over the last 5-10 years have made it difficult to remember that the average night time temperature in July in the UK is 11C. In June it’s 9C. It is much hotter than it should be.
