Some instances operate on an allowlist rather than just blindly being open, but honestly the number of problem instances is much lower than you might expect. Most are just wide open. Spinning up an instance will cost you some time and a domain, so it’s not exactly a zero cost effort.

I bought a Bedjet about 8 months ago, best 8 months of sleep I’ve ever had. No subscription, no cloud bullshit, it’s integrated into my home assistant with a esp32 bluetooth relay. Worth checking out.
For pc, very. I spent hours downloading rips of games off a BBS. One of the few games I bought was duke nukem 3d and that’s just because I wanted the build level editor that I couldn’t find a download of.
For consoles, less so. I had a pirated “100 in 1” nes cart of from China but all the games were crap. Cartridge copying wasn’t a thing.
I vaguely remember a n64 device that could load cartridge images off a zip drive or something. Nobody had one though.
Piracy became bigger again when the ps1 mod chip came out and we had brand new cd burners. Dreamcast too.

We’re not in cahoots with anyone on this, we’re just busy. Please keep in mind we’re all donating our time and just because we’re browsing and commenting, doesn’t mean we have the time / energy to sit down at our PC to dig through mod logs & user history to look into things right away. I personally do most of my lemmy surfing on mobile, not well suited to digging into mod logs.
We’ll get back to that message, just give us time. We all have busy lives outside of lemmy too.
Pricing is different per region, and they don’t want you shipping for apps from a cheaper region.
The science behind this one confuses me. Bluetooth is short range, and gps is too low power to penetrate. There’s no way a gps will get lock from inside a ship, and someone would need a compatible app and internet to relay it out.
The issue isn’t the tracker, it’s the person with their personal phone and the app that relayed the position of the tracker while they were in cell range of the shore.
Yeah I use VL for lemmy.ca and it’s super quick and lightweight, but getting what you want into grafana can be difficult.
Elastic is heaaaaavy. You might want to check out Loki, I haven’t used it but I think it’d be easier to get started with than Victoria logs since it integrates tightly with grafana
VL is really about aggregation, not displaying it. You’d probably just need to setup a grafana dashboard with filters for all your normal traffic
