  • There was a sincere risk of Russia using nuclear weapons earlier in the conflict, around the winter of 2022/2023 when the first major Russian mobilization of 600k failed to achieve the desired outcomes and the North Western front started to collapse. The released intelligence info put it at about 50/50.

This is why, at the time, the Biden administration made several clearly coded messages/announcements that nuclear weapons usage in Ukraine would result in an overwhelming conventional retaliation that would remove Russian military capability from the board. It’s also part of the reason nations were so slow to provide advanced support capabilities. There was a fear (justified, imo) that immediately opening the floodgates and giving Ukraine tanks, jets, advanced missiles, and using those missiles to strike deep in Russian territory would result in usage of nuclear weapons. It still is a risk, honestly. If Ukraine started doing heavy damage to Moscow, there’s a real chance Putin might decide to flip the table over rather than lose the game.

  • It is currently the beginning of Feb and our normal weather here is a few days of snow, usually a few inches, usually at least one large to shut everything down (like 10+"). Overcast. In the 20s and 30s (F).

I went skiing on Saturday and have never seen so much literally bare ground outside of the very early or very very late season.

I went to a protest today. Parked a distance away and walked. It was 68°. It feels like the end of April. We got almost no snow - only like a foot unseasonably early in the middle of November. The wildfire season this year is going to be rough, and the summer will be brutal.

It does what it needs to, albeit poorly, for a handful of cents per pen. Once you start viewing them as disposable instead of trying to keep them until they’re out of ink, it makes more sense.

These are the pens put out where they’re going to get lost or taken, pocketed by the general public. I’d say their biggest flaw is that they don’t work on hard surfaces, so they suck for signing receipts on counters.

  • I feel like being faced with your own imminent demise definitely gives you some honorary adult points. If anything I want to say this is possibly the best possible case and way for this to occur.

Kid is dying, knows they’re dying, and is at the age where they’d likely be experimenting sexually with peers if they weren’t constantly in the hospital. They’re adult enough to be aware of and want to engage in one of the quintessential human experiences.

Age of consent in Australia is 16, they’re 15, and prostitution is somewhere between legal and quasi-legal there. Because the act is with a prostitute, it removes the weirder gross aspects of, “emotionally or physically attracted to someone younger,” and also removes the potentially problematic power dynamic because it’s purely transactional.

  • Nah, sorry, different person than you were initially responding to. I was out to breakfast and just wrote that quickly on my phone.

It was pinched for about 3-4 weeks before my physical therapist finally realized what I’d told him at the start - that my calf was literally paralyzed. He was like, “Oh… that’s, that’s not good. You need to go to the spine doctor like, immediately.” (Dude sucked, but it was the very beginning of COVID so my options were limited.)

Got me in to see the spine doc the next day and I got emergency cortisone injections by the end of the week.

I got usage of my calf back, and significant reduction in pain. But I never got back the full amount of feeling in the right two toes of my right foot, that side of that foot, and stretching up to about mid shin height on the same side. I have pressure sensitivity still. And even touch, kinda. It’s like when a limb is asleep. But fuck it I’ll take that over the feeling of daggers and lava I had before.
