Corporation greed is real.
Corporations are not people. Workers are people.
Looks like they are not teaching the dumber students enough.
More Wayland suppose, yes!
If you were looking for a Remote Desktop program to help a customer or other user, TeamViewer worked for me on Ubuntu. It was a great way to fix an issue remotely with a Windows user.
But you may not be looking for this type of connection.
Wayland is the future and X11 is heading to the past.
I have always liked Nvidia for years. When I moved to Linux, the Nvidia drivers have been working great on X11. I am currently playing Baldur’s Gate 3 and I have DLSS 2 turned on and get frame rates at 100. Looks great and awesome game. But I know Wayland is the future and want Nvidia to work well with it and Steam. I will get an AMD if I have to but my card is still great and I am not looking for a new one yet.
I was waiting for Nvidia drivers 545 to try again, but I checked last weekend and Ubuntu still had 535 drivers. I hear Nvidia did a lot of fixes for wayland on the new drivers.
I want everyone to move over to Wayland too.
I use my Linux PC for gaming. Last time I tried Steam/Nvidia with Wayland I could only get one game to launch. So hopefully those 2 will work on making Wayland happen for us.
All my games work with Steam/Proton (thanks Value!) and I mainly use my desktop as a gaming PC. I do some bussiness stuff but LibreOffice will work. Or I also use Google Docs to do things–can be saved as Microsoft Office file types or PDF.
But you are right, if you need a Windows only program, then Windows is the only option. I had to update the firmware on my Xbox controller that I use with Steam to play my games. I had to wipe one of my laptops and put a copy of Windows on there to get this done. Another time there was a free Baldurs Gate game from Amazon games I could get, BUT you needed the Amazon Game app to get it. And it only ran on Windows. I put Windows on a laptop, download the free game, then moved it to my Linux Gaming PC. After adding it to Steam as a non Steam game, I was exploring dugeons with elves and dwarves.
It’s still a Windows world, but IF enough gamers switch to Linux that could change. And Microsoft is only going to get worse with ads.
I know it was Phillip Glass. I got his album because of this movie.
The music in the movie for this part was great.
Handsome guy. Hope no one stole his picture without his permission.
I installed GDebi from the store and used that. But the snap store use to let you use the store to install the local deb file. To be more user friendly, I hope they make this work again.
I have installed things with the CLI but like a GUI better.
I switched to Linux/Ubuntu when I found out all of my Steam games work on Linux. I was shocked but it was true. I heard there are a few games that don’t work because of EAC but I don’t have any of those. I even added all my non steam games to steam and they work. Even Project 1999 works, Baldur’s Gate 1, and 2 works…and works very well. I am playing the newest games too like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Lords of the Fallen on max settings with my XBox controller.
My PC and I think a lot of people’s PC are used for gaming. Now I also installed Google Chrome when I did have to do some business. I was able to make Office friendly files for my resume and PDFs with Google docs. When I did need to do some graphic work I used gimp. Ubuntu saw my Brother network printer and I printed what I needed.
I am sure there are people who need software that will not work on Linux, but a lot of people could use Linux for their everyday PC use. Most people game or use the web browser.
I am a current Ubuntu user since around 2020. I left windows for good when they release windows 11.
Love the look of the new snap store in Minotaur, but want the ability to install local deb file back.
This looks like a big update. I’m downloading it now. I’m looking forward to the new app store, updated kernel, and Gnome look great. I like the minotaur wallpaper too.
I use my PC for gaming. Ubuntu works well for me with my new hardware: Intel 13gen, Nvidia 3080, Steam.
I want to switch to Wayland. I try it every month to see if it is working with my system and so far it is not.
Ubuntu 23.04/Nvidia 3080/Steam. It use to work with the old big picture mode but when steam went to the new one, Wayland broke for me.
I love onions. Any one remember that old novelty “I love onions” song. No…guess I am just old. “LA La La”
