Oh wow. Someone downvoted that. … Someone yet to read up (at least) about what (famous prohibitionist) Harry J Anslinger and (his uncle the timber and newspaper baron) Randolf William Hearst did?

4·18 days agoNo no no. It was their fault. You want to rule with a more benevolent hand, but they force you, with their ignorance of your superiority, and lack of gratitude for this great gift… SHOULD HAVE KILLED THEM ALL… And that is why you’re not an evil man.

Imagine what it’d be like if we had never believed the lie that our best friend hemp is a demon called marijuana, a century ago.

51·18 days agoI often think how if we had genuine robust social security, stuff like this, would be an utter non-issue.
- No economic coercive drive to race faster to the bottom. [And so no ai churn]
- No concern if anyone uses your creations since your livelihood/survival’s no longer tied to it [and the “intellectual property” monopoly you have on it].

Then it’s not just faster, it’s broader, deeper and further, than narrow metric matching of industrial “educations”'s specialisation’s maximal-ignorance-bar-one; than is sought in employment roles that simply seek a degree. [Which I’m given to understand is increasingly the type of adaptive polymathy sought in many endeavours.]
and such, I’ve come across https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Akj4EGPiQEY … interesting for anyone interested in pedagogy and psychology and sociology and so on. Johan Hari on Peter McCormack, “We Built A World Humans Aren’t Designed For”.
It seems like awareness of this is increasing,
and shall increase even more as the mismatch of provision and needs widens as ai and robots increasingly take up more and more of what industrial education had been conditioning us to be the robots for. Our robotification shall become farther out of reach of worth, into redundancy, revealing our real worth.
Johan Hari puts it better than my mangled clumsy verbosity.
So it’s like that line from Good Will Hunting: “You wasted $150,000 on an education you coulda got for $1.50 in late fees at the public library.”
Yeah for sure there’s a mix, different usecases, and it’s just handy to illustrate the other extremes, to elucidate others of the existence of these other paradigms otherwise beyond their ken. Some of them may indeed likewise have been a star shaped peg trying to fit in a square shaped hole, not realising there are ways that fit them better.
So much exhausting bureaucratic organisational downtime in college between ladles of info, perchance you’re fit for it when they pour it, compared to just freely swimming in the ocean of information.
It takes some kind of self motivation, be that curiosity, dedication, purpose or something else.
Also then there’s the perspectives that value education above mere preparation for employment roles.

I confess, I’m perhaps complicit in that.
