World News@quokk.au•Finland tears up nuclear weapons ban in NATO shift
1·2 months agoThere are no NATO weapons besides the weapons of NATO members. UK, US, Germany, etc — almost all of Ukraine’s weapons, ammunition, training and intel comes from NATO.

31·2 months agoHe’s no Stalin, and NATO leaders aren’t Hitler of course. But some of them have made a point of honouring the memory of Nazi collaborators recently (Canada and France, maybe others).

1·2 months agoNATO is not supplying anything to Ukraine, really? Where does Ukraine get all its weapons, intel and training?

1·2 months agoNonsense. Civilian infrastructure deep within Russia is bombed with NATO intel and weapons almost daily. World’s biggest nuke arsenal.

World News@quokk.au•Finland tears up nuclear weapons ban in NATO shift
2·2 months agoExactly this. The arrogance of these fuckers. Even if this policy could make Finland safer — it doesn’t, but let’s imagine — what gives them the right to push the whole world closer to nuclear war?

World News@quokk.au•Finland tears up nuclear weapons ban in NATO shift
1·2 months agoFinland is already a member of NATO. Situating nuclear weapons there doesn’t increase the “deterrent” effect of NATO nukes. Instead, it increases the likelihood that Russia will feel compelled to rely on faster, more automated systems to determine if NATO has initiated a surprise attack, and to retaliate. We’re seconds to midnight on the doomsday clock, and these fuckers think it’s clever to announce this horrendous policy.

World News@quokk.au•Finland tears up nuclear weapons ban in NATO shift
1·2 months ago“This is not hard math” misses the point that nuclear weapons are an abomination, and that situating parts of a nuclear weapons system directly on Russia’s border increases the risk of miscalculation and a nuclear exchange, and consequently genocide on an unimaginable scale.

Technology@piefed.social•Speeding Up the “Kill Chain”: Pentagon Bombs Thousands of Targets in Iran Using Palantir AIEnglish
4·5 months agoIt’s tempting to think that with more accurate data about schools, hospitals and other civilian infrastructure, this wouldn’t have happened. But I doubt it, because if Secretary Pete Hegseth is even nearly as bloodthirsty and careless about human life as the President of the UN General Assembly, Annalena Baerbock, he would probably have approved the double-tap bombing of the girls school knowing full-well what it was.
What I mean is — the tech isn’t the problem. It’s our leaders. And not just the crass, bombastic ones like Trump and Hegseth. Indeed, probably worst of all are the fake feminist foreign policy clowns from Europe.

OpenAI’s Sam Altman says today that they’re gonna take Anthropic’s place on DoW classified networks (https://xcancel.com/sama/status/2027578652477821175#m).
Still, Anthropic being designated a “supply chain risk” is good news, as it means Claude cannot officially be used anymore by the Pentagon and by all of its suppliers. That’s massive.
Good discussion of this on HN: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47188473
I haven’t read anyone say that it was about retaining the IP. Anthropic says, and others agree, that it would be totally irresponsible to use current frontier AI systems for lethal autonomous weapon systems – even if you think that LAWS are okay. Current AI systems are far too error-prone.

Interesting article about him here — https://www.dangerousspeech.org/counter-speech-case-studies/hasnain-kazim
He’s doing Mastodon a favour. He can always return to anywhere on the fediverse. Complaining that one moderator on one Mastodon instance was mean isn’t news, but maybe it is if it’s a journalist. Good for him.
