Almonds@mander.xyzto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•I need to buy a fridge+freezer soon, what should I look out for?8·8 days agoI absolutely hate my side-by-side. Can’t fit a frozen pizza, the veggie drawers can barely hold a few days worth of vegetables. Had to move my water pitcher to a shelf because the door shelves are so small, but that also meant taking a shelf out of the fridge.
I’m getting the same style you have, and I’m super excited lol
Almonds@mander.xyzto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•The President of the United States posted this message on his account. He wants the Vietnamese to buy SUVsEnglish42·9 days agoEvery single Vietnamese person I’ve known has only driven motorcycles or scooters, because the roads are already too congested to handle large vehicle traffic. I know autos are available for hire, but realistically is it even worth owning an American SUV in Vietnam?
Almonds@mander.xyzto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What should Americans throw into the Gulf of Mexico to protest the passing of this bill?61·10 days ago“Billionaire chum” was right there
My AC stopped working. It’s 1am and still 90°F inside my house. The only window that opens in this stupid house is next to the door, so I cant even take advantage of the colder nighttime temperatures and try to draft air through. And it’s only going to get hotter as the month progresses :/
Almonds@mander.xyzto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a really popular TV show you just couldn't get into?231·12 days agoThe Orville.
I’m sorry! I’m a trekkie so I really wanted to love it. I can’t stand Seth McFarlane, though, and apparently it isn’t just his animated shows like Family Guy or American Dad that I hate.
Almonds@mander.xyzto Ask Science@lemmy.world•Whatever your field of expertise, are there any popular science books you'd recommend that do a good job of presenting it to the public?English5·12 days agoMaybe he’s mellowed out, this was before podcasts were widespread. I definitely felt like I had been scammed for the ticket price of that event though 😅
I play Stardew Valley sometimes, but it’s not as fun as the pc version.
I’ve had Backpack Brawl for a while, and Balatro too. Most other games I don’t play for longer than a month or so. I did play Super Snail for a long time because I liked my clubmates, but the bird update killed it for me lol
Almonds@mander.xyzto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•In an event sponsored by General Motors, Tesla, Ford, Chrysler, the US Transportation Secretary urged americans to use a car this summerEnglish6·12 days agoThey went from enjoying an upward trend in tourism revenue across the country, to projections of $10+b in loss within six months. They’re not going to get that much money from the American citizens they are encouraging to travel.
Shit, it isn’t even really safe to travel across states anymore, who knows what they’ll imply from your traffic data. A young woman traveled across state lines and needed medical care? Time to accuse her of an abortion, and tack on federal charges while they’re at it.
Almonds@mander.xyzto Ask Science@lemmy.world•Whatever your field of expertise, are there any popular science books you'd recommend that do a good job of presenting it to the public?English8·12 days agoOmg. I went to a Michio Kaku “lecture” like 15 years ago. Had no idea what he was about, it just seemed like an interesting way to spend an evening.
The entire hour and a half was painting his achievements like biggest thing since sliced bread, and trying to sell his books. I am still not even sure if he’s educated in his field or if he fell into it by speaking with a patronizing affect
Edit: to answer your question. I enjoyed Live Long and Evolve: What Star Trek Can Teach Us about Evolution, Genetics, and Life on Other Worlds by Mohammed Noor
but I admit I haven’t read it since I began my Biology degree. I’ll have to read it again!
Almonds@mander.xyzto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•In an event sponsored by General Motors, Tesla, Ford, Chrysler, the US Transportation Secretary urged americans to use a car this summerEnglish23·12 days agoIt’s going to be wonderful for our economy
I’m sure this has nothing to do with international tourism sharply dropping.
Almonds@mander.xyzto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is it possible for an neighbor's apartment to have mice but not mine?9·13 days agoI have a friend with six cats, and a mice problem. I had actually never seen a mouse indoors until I was visiting them one day lol
Almonds@mander.xyzto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•"Almost out of shampoo, better add it to my shopping list."1·14 days agoGet out of my head!
For real though, that’s exactly my thought process
That’s actually a valid prefix issued for Florida in '81
Almonds@mander.xyzto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•My combat boots lasted 4-years. Is that reasonable given hard use?12·16 days agoI wear combat boots made for first responders (Haix). They are about 3-4 times the cost of yours, but they are made in Europe. Anyway, I’ve had my oldest pair for over six years, and I put at least 10 miles on them on a day. The only upkeep they’ve needed so far is some conditioner. I have a ton of boots, but these are by far my favorites
I’ve worn them in the Arizona desert during summer, and in winter where I live (gets to -30F and colder)
Well, his Wikipedia article is horrifying
He asserts that casual sex attracts subterranean spirits that make an impression on the inside of women’s vaginas and offers exercises to “clean out” said vaginas; he writes that children get cancer because they want it;
I hope her first husband kept their daughters away from him
