IIRC, “American” is a technical term of art referring to this process, so theoretically one could have American French cheese and so on.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•So apparently theres no more physical games on Playstation.English
5·8 days agoMaybe it’s time to petition politicians in jurisdictions like the EU and Brazil where third-party app stores are legally mandated for mobile platforms to stop exempting game consoles from this regulation. If Sony were forced to allow Steam/Epic/GoG on the PS6, it would make the platform a lot more consumer friendly.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Mullvad is apparently the main financier of a Swedish far-right party
31·9 days agoBy all accounts, he seems to have been a fairly standard TESCREAL-adjacent high-decoupling libertarian until now, like a lot of tech founders. While some of these end up steelmanning fascism and coming to the conclusion that it’s pretty neat, it by no means follows.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Mullvad is apparently the main financier of a Swedish far-right party
12·9 days agoHe owns 50% of the company. He would be legally within his rights to sack anyone moving against him. Short of him being visited by three ghosts and persuaded to change his ways/sell his share to someone more sympathetic to the company’s stated values/convert it to an employee-owned cooperative, there’s not much that can be done.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Mullvad is apparently the main financier of a Swedish far-right party
16·9 days agoBerntsson apparently gets most of his income from other companies that he owns (in investments), with Mullvad not being run primarily as a dividend source, so Mullvad’s contribution to the money he donated to the Nazis was probably small. Still, a small amount of shit in the punchbowl is still faecal contamination, though it may be good to keep the facts in mind if weighing up Mullvad vs. Proton vs. Kape and evaluating acceptable compromises (ethical consumption under capitalism and all that).

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your thoughts and feelings towards nuclear power?
8·10 days agoWhere nuclear plants have been built to a safe standard, sweat them for their useful life. The costs are paid down, and the energy is cheap to produce, creating only a truckload or so of waste (which can be reprocessed into fuel) for a year’s power.
Where there aren’t usable nuclear plants, you’re probably better off building renewables and/or energy storage. The upfront costs of nuclear are steep. (Also, some nuclear plants built when the climate was cooler are having to shut down on hot days due to the temperature of water used to cool them being too high.)
In either case, I’d rather have modern nuclear power than coal.
