World News@lemmy.world•Fox News host suggests US ‘may have to burn a bridge’ with Denmark over GreenlandEnglish
3·2 months agoWe already have military bases in Greenland and I’m sure their government would be willing to let us do just about anything reasonable for us to do. The situation is adequate for defense and economic opportunities. This is about ego. I don’t want Greenland to be part of the US. I want them to do their thing and continue to be a great neighbor.

World News@lemmy.world•U.S. deports dozens of migrants to Ukraine amid warEnglish
11·3 months agoUnless you are Russia, North Korea, China, or similarly aligned, it is in your interest that Ukrainian men be in Ukraine defending their country. If you are in Ukraine, it is in your interest that they be returned to fight. If you are on the front lines, you damn well have the expectation that they be made to join you on the front lines. It doesn’t matter what these men want. It matters what they will be made to do. And the pressure needs to be turned up to send them back to Ukraine to fight. Call it what you want but, in a just war, conscription is morally just, and pulling men back home to join in the defense of the county is morally just.

World News@lemmy.world•U.S. deports dozens of migrants to Ukraine amid warEnglish
319·3 months agoImmigration lawyers have raised concerns that those deported to Ukraine could be conscripted to fight in the war.
They should be. This isn’t an optional or unjust war for Ukraine to fight. Every capable man should be returned so they can fight.

World News@quokk.au•Supreme Court to weigh longshot bid to overturn same-sex marriage precedentEnglish
2·3 months agoI read these articles but they never state what’s the argument being used. What’s the argument the court would consider? That States have the right to regulate these independently? That marriage is (by inherent definition) is between opposite sexes? That public employees have a right to not participate by refusing to file forms, witness marriage, etc.?

Linux@lemmy.ml•Distro Recommendation Discussion (Not a 'What Distro Should I Use?' Post)English
4·3 months agoI started using Linux as my primary computer about 7 years ago. After a few months of distro hopping, I landed on Solus because it is stable and rolling. I didn’t want to deal with breaks during major upgrades. My system is still going and I have no complaints. I’m just a regular computer user, personal and work (non-tech job). I have to wonder why Solus doesn’t get more attention.

World News@lemmy.world•BREAKING: Israeli authorities have beaten Greta Thunberg, made her kiss Zionist flagEnglish
1·4 months agoI’ll be honest, I’ve only seen a few images of hostages returned to Israel and all of them looked healthy. I had expected their condition to be worse. That said, I’ve not looked at any video and only a few images, so I could be missing something. What are the allegations and evidence of allegations being provided by those who have been returned? I’m not invested in either side of that conflict, so I don’t feel a need for either side to be the “right” side.

World News@lemmy.world•Kenyan Catholic Church drops Mass wine after it becomes common in barsEnglish
18·4 months agoReading between the lines, I think there’s a corruption problem where someone is stealing wine purchased for the church and being sold at bars. A new brand/label might be an effort to change processes to make this type of corruption more difficult or easier to uncover.

If you want to get technical, all the games are bad because they extract vast amount of resources from people who live in the host city and leave behind unusable infrastructure. Also, the corruption. So much corruption.
