It depends on how you play, but I think Arthur Morgan from RDR2 can be a positive masculine role model if you play high honor the whole game or choose redemption in its final act.

Television@piefed.social•Fallout Season 2 Opens To 100 Percent On Rotten TomatoesEnglish
1·28 days agoI had mixed feelings about the first season. I’m more of a West Coast Fallout Fan then an East Coast Fan, so while I can acknowledge the show is well produced and entertaining, I cant help but be irritated by the direction its taking the franchise. I’m interested but cautious of season 2, especially since its content will now align closer to my favorite game in the series. I’m also doubtful of the long term success of any show from the creators of Westworld. I’ve been burned before.

2·28 days agoThe scores on these prestige streaming shows are always bullshit. They’re usually based off just a handful of critics who saw the first few episodes. These shows are usually front-loaded with quality and then fall apart mid or late in the season, so the scores start great and by the time bad reviews come in most people have moved on.

4·1 month agoI’ve grown more fond of Wesley as I’ve grown older. He’s only ever really “annoying” in season one, but the entire show was rough back them. I wish we had gotten more of Wesley post season 4, during TNG’s peak years.

8·1 month agoJaneway is a fine character. Like all the crew on Voyager she is inconsistently written, but she is one of the better characters. Neelix fits the OP best.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you think **you** can become a benevolent dictator without ever getting corrupted or turn evil?English
42·4 months agoBenevolent dictator is an oxymoron. The most benevolent thing a dictator can do is dismantle their dictatorship.

191·5 months agoHonestly I’ve always hated this. An early example of the awful trend where there has to be a “lore reason” for every little detail.
Star Trek aliens are mostly humanoids because its a human TV show telling stories that have to be relatable to humans and also has a limited budget. There is no need for a lore explanation.
At least in this case it’s a one off that’s never really referenced again.

Still, unfortunately the damage has been done.

6717·6 months agoSouth Park has always been Right Wing. Trey and Matt are self proclaimed “Libertarians”. There’s a significant overlap in the Venn Diagram of Joe Rogan bros and South Park fans. “They make fun of both sides bro” and yet some of their most enduring cultural contributions are downplaying climate change and dehumanizing trans people.
They may clutch their pearls about MAGA now, but their promotion of political apathy among Gen X and Millennial men is part of why we have MAGA.
As Mr Plinkett pointed out over a decade ago, Qui-Gon might as well have just beaten Watto up and stolen the ship part.
What I can never wrapu head around is if Qui-Gon being a dumbass is supposed to be some kind of intentional deconstruction of the Jedi, or if George is just a sloppy screenwriter with questionable ethics. The latter seems more likely, and is supported by Qui-Gon being a force ghost.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who is your favourite Anti Hero?English
2·6 months agoIt’s also established that’s he’s an accelerationist. He’s intentionally baiting the Empire to crackdown more brutally on dissent in an effort to forment rebellion among the common people of the galaxy. He fears that if he does not do this, there will be a day when the Empires grip is too tight to escape.
“It will burn… Very brightly”
In the end, he was right. The Death Star vindicates his methods. Without Luthen laying the groundwork for the Rebel Alliance, the Galaxy would have been a boiling frog and the Death Star would have led to its brutal oppression for generations.
Yeah I stopped doing it in High School after realizing that it’s some North Korea level bullshit. Got a few other kids in my homeroom to stop too, which really angered our teacher. She was a military spouse and would actually yell at us for refusing to participate. In the end, we compromised by standing but not reciting it. Was the begining of my political and social awakening.
I attended a top 100 public high school in America, where we were taught Greek and Roman mythology. The problem wasn’t that the subject wasn’t offered, it was that a sizable portion of students weren’t paying attention. Even among those who did, few retained the knowledge beyond the next exam. The real issue with American education isn’t just what’s being taught but how it’s being taught. Subjects aren’t presented in a way that truly engages students or encourages long-term retention.
I think the thing we’re getting hung up on here is the language. Are these teenage edgelords really rebellious? Regrettably, I was one of those kids in high school, and so were most of my friends. I guess you could argue that we rebelling against the school and societies authority, but the reality was we were the biggest bunch of loser bullies in the school.
Unfortunately, few of them grew out of this phase, and now they’re just the lamest group of adult men sharing edgy memes on discord.

Most men in Star Trek would fall into this category. Sisko fills the top spot for me though, for his portrayal as a supportive, affectionate, and masculine father while balancing the responsibilities of wartime leadership.
