The 1989 movie created a wonderful world, but the sequel (Batman Returns) was in some ways a reboot because it changed the tone so much. If you were to cut scenes or elements of the sequel to make it feel more like the original 1989 movie, what changes would you make? I’m working on a fan edit.

My own thoughts are to remove the more fantastical and slapstick elements by cutting down on screen time of Max Schreck and the Penguin (due to the Adam West style gags). I’m thinking of delaying the intro of the Penguin until the ballroom scene between Bruce Wayne and Selena Kyle.

What would you do?

Interesting take I never felt the tone changed until batman forever due to McDonald’s being mad about Burton’s vision for the series. Returns just doubled down on what the first one was doing and being a reflection of the villain.

I watched Forever just a few weeks ago. I never thought I would but I was curious. Man, that thing was aimed at pre-teens.
