    Damn thanks for clarifying lul. I assumed it was a sexual exploitation thing since it happens a couple times a year for mangakas.

    I don’t know the details yet but I’m assuming it must be bad if it’s going that far. Maybe their laws are just extra harsh for that, in the US they would just tell you to get it sorted/pay it or face consequences, takes quite a bit to get to the point of conviction.

      Yeah just gov’t lacking in any leniency or human-ness. She suddenly had her serialization take off and the money rolls in, certainly no extra free time for a popular mangaka to do taxes they were already falling behind on. I don’t think there was any mention if whatever part of the government that handles taxes ever contacted her before resorting to legal action, but surely they could afford to do so and give her time to even hire someone to do it for her which would also surely be easier when not being charged with a crime.

      In canada it seems if you fall behind on taxes you just silently loose some standard benefits. I had to catch up to get some medical stuff covered but I only found out when I was asked to pay for my meds and told finishing my taxes would get it covered.
