During a closed-door session, after UN cameras were switched off and observers from civil society organizations were asked to leave, the US and Russia each brought in about ten lawyers. That was nearly twice the number of lawyers on other delegations. According to three sources, the changes were being made so quickly that smaller delegations were unable to keep up with the process.

It isn’t the US vs. Russia, it is the ruling class of the US and the ruling class of russia vs. the rest of us.

Perhaps it goes without saying, but Trump and Russia want to use AI to quickly identify and kill dissidents in their own countries.

When the next BLM-scale protests/riots start, the mass imprisonment of anti-fascists in concentration camps will start. If they get out of hand and fascists face actual consequences, the autonomous mass murder will start too.

I am confident this will occur within the next 3 years. It all depends on what act of fascist terrorism or injustice will spark the powder keg.

Why bother having the rule? America is going to drone strike whoever the fuck they want anyways and the UN are going to be too chickenshit or complicit to do anything about it.

Well… that was the world we used to live in, but the reason this is happening now is precisely because the US military no longer has complete dominance, many nations have figured out how to fight a combined arms conflict with modern technology and drones and so now all of a sudden having this rule might actually mean something…

How is that allowed? Why didn’t people say “fuck no, you genocidal bastards. We’re staying. And the cameras stay on”

Why would this need to be a specific rule? Anyone giving an order to fire should be verifying their targets, whether the info is from AI or not.

How do you expect someone who is launching a missile that will travel several hundred kilometers to “verify” the target?

They’re going to have depend on reports and instrumentation. What this rule would do is make it so AI does not count as those, at least not on its own.

Same way they’ve verified targets for thousands of years. Regular intelligence gathering, which doesn’t including consulting random number statistical samplers.

Exactly, which means there is a difference between treating the random number generator as evidence or not which this rule would disambiguate.
