True, although they managed to rework them into the enlisted uniforms for Wrath of Khan and beyond (ctrl-F “ENLISTED CREW UNIFORMS”), and those are perfectly fine for background characters.
Sorry OP, but TMP uniforms are the worst in any Trek and it’s not even close.

It’s odd to me that OP assumed people would prefer that drab boringness. If people liked it then the producers would’ve kept using that aesthetic
